Once again Roche Court sculpture park extended a very warm welcome to Harrow Way. A group of year 9s visited the park to view contemporary sculptures and to make a comment on the materials used and what the artist was portraying in the work. […]

Year 9 students have recently completed a ‘Pop Art Pots’ project with Mrs Collins. The students researched and copied a pop artist of their choice, then using influences from the ceramicist Betty Woodman, they designed their own pots which showed elements of their chosen artist. Year 8 students have recently completed a ‘Food’ project with Mrs Collins. They researched food and presented their findings as a paper plate collage, before photographing a range of different foods including decorated cakes and breakfasts. Year 7 students have recently completed a landscape project with Mrs Collins. After sketching in the open air they researched landscape artists and were introduced to a range of techniques such as card relief, collage, wet on wet painting and finally clay relief. The results can be seen on the wall outside the library. [...]
Year 9 high achievers in art have been introduced to the process of using ‘gallery sheets’ to gather visual information in response to an exhibition. In this case it was a display on animal welfare issues which they contributed to themselves. The students have made small sculptural responses, maquettes, which have led to bigger sculptures. [...]
