New Intake Information

The time has come to welcome your child to Harrow Way and to give you a little more information about forthcoming arrangements to ensure a successful transition. With students coming from many different schools this year, we are busy planning our visits to the main feeders and looking at options for easing the transition for students.

Year 6 Transition Arrangements

We are delighted to invite our new students to visit us as part of our Induction Day on Tuesday 7th July 2026. Students should wear their primary school uniform. Throughout the day, they will meet their Head of Year, their tutor, experience a typical lesson and get to know our school site. More details can be found in our Welcome Pack (link below).

In the evening of Tuesday 7th July, we would like to invite parents to a short Welcome meeting in our school Auditorium. The start time will depend on your child’s tutor group. More details will be sent to parents in due course.

To ensure that transition to our school is as smooth as possible, please read our Welcome Booklet. New parents will receive our weekly E-News Bulletin and we will send vital updates via email.

If your child has Special Educational Needs and you have particular questions about the support on offer in September, our SENCO, Mrs Emma Law, will be holding a parents’ forum on Induction Day between 2.45pm and 3.30pm. Please fill in the Student Preference Form (link below) to book a place.

We’re so excited to welcome you to our school and help you get ready for the move from Year 6 to Year 7!

The jump to secondary school is a big and exciting step — new subjects, new friends, new routines — and our Maths Department is here to help make the transition as smooth and supportive as possible.

Over the summer, it is really important to keep your maths brain active. Just doing a little bit now and again will make a big difference when you start Year 7. That is why we have put together a few fun and challenging resources for you to try at home:

See you in September!

School Uniform – changes for September 2026

School uniform is an important part of school life. It helps create a sense of belonging and pride, and ensures students are dressed appropriately for learning each day.

Over time, expectations around dress – both in schools and in the wider workplace – have evolved. Having reflected carefully, we believe that aspects of our current uniform were not only costly for families, but also no longer fully reflect a modern, comfortable, and purposeful approach to school life.

Throughout this academic year, we have been consulting on changes to our school uniform and made some considered changes to ensure our uniform remains smart, affordable, and better suited to learning. The following uniform has been agreed from September 2026:

  • Students will be allowed to wear a grey polo shirt, which may be bought at any outlet.
  • We are introducing a green jumper with the Harrow Way logo.
  • Plain black trainers will be allowed on the condition that there are no visible logos.

We are also pleased to confirm that, in line with guidance from the Department for Education (DfE), we will now have two uniform suppliers: Happy Fish and Stitch a Logo. This will give families greater choice and flexibility. They will supply the jumper and the PE kit. More information will be included in the Welcome Pack.

THINK! ‘Safe Adventures’

The THINK! ‘Safe Adventures’ campaign (launched in April 2024) , aims to help parents across the country prepare their children for independent travel when they move to secondary school.

Road casualty data shows that the number of child pedestrian casualties doubles between the ages of 9 and 11, with incidents more likely to happen during drop-off and pick up times.

THINK! has produced an activity sheet with tips for parents to share with their children on practice journeys and an interactive safe adventures quiz.

Journey to School

The Just the Journey maps have been developed to assist new Year 7 students as they adjust to their new, independent travel to secondary school.

They give you information on how to plan you journey to your new school, showing you how long it takes to walk or cycle depending on where you live.
