Updated – Tuesday 23rd June 2026
Thank you for your support and understanding over the past two days. I have had to make some difficult decisions, and I have been incredibly grateful for the encouragement and support shown by our families.
Although the heat has presented some challenges, our students and staff have responded admirably. I was particularly impressed during break and lunchtime today to see so many students making sensible choices by seeking shade, staying hydrated and looking after themselves.
The decision to implement a half-day closure today was a sensible one. Having walked around the school this morning, I observed excellent learning taking place across lessons; however, as the day progressed, classroom temperatures became increasingly high and it was clear that some students were struggling with the heat.
For this reason, we will continue to operate an optional half-day closure on Wednesday 24th June 2026.
• If you wish your child to remain in school and have already completed the Google Form, you do not need to do anything further.
• If your child left school today but you would like them to remain in school tomorrow, please complete this Google Form by 9.00am Wednesday morning.
• If you are happy for your child to leave the school site at lunchtime, please provide permission either by signing their planner or by sending them a text message confirming this.
For parents of children who get the Stagecoach School Bus or Pikes Minibus, they have confirmed they can collect early tomorrow:
Stagecoach at 12.40 pm
Pikes Minibus at 1.00 pm
Work for the afternoon will be provided online through Bromcom.
We will continue to monitor conditions closely throughout tomorrow to ensure that our arrangements remain appropriate and that students and staff are safe and well. At present, my hope is that we will be able to operate as normal on Thursday. However, with the red weather warning still in place and temperatures unlike those we have previously experienced in school, it is important that we remain responsive to changing conditions.
As always, the welfare of our students and staff will be my overriding priority. I will write to you again tomorrow with an update and to confirm our arrangements for Thursday.
Yours faithfully
Mrs German
Headteacher
