Of particular interest to new parents will be the Welcome Pack, which will be posted to your home address after half term. This will include essential information about Induction Day and preparing for secondary school. We will use either your address given to us by the local authority, or one subsequently updated by you. If you do not receive a Welcome Pack by 19th June, please contact us at school on 01264 364533 to check we have your correct address details.
It’s hard to believe that we’ve reached the end of this summer half term already. It has been a busy six weeks, with GCSE examinations in full flow.
Our Year 11 students have continued to impress us with their hard work, maturity and positive attitude throughout the examination period. Their conduct in the exam hall has been exemplary and they have approached each day with real determination and resilience. We are very proud of the way they are representing both themselves and the school community.
I strongly believe that commitment and dedication should be recognised and celebrated, so today we arranged a surprise ice cream van for Year 11. Students enjoyed spending time together on the field in the sunshine, taking a well-earned break and enjoying a delicious ice cream after a demanding few weeks. It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces, and the students were absolutely delighted by the treat.

Each week, I receive many kind emails and messages celebrating our fantastic school community. While it is always lovely to hear recognition for our students, so many of these messages express thanks for the care and support shown by our staff each day. Our school is successful because of the exceptional team of people who work here and the difference they make to the lives of our young people.

National Thank a Teacher Day, taking place on 17th June, provides a perfect opportunity to recognise and celebrate all staff. Every member of our team, including teachers, support staff, office staff, site staff and all those working behind the scenes, plays an important role in supporting our students and school community. If you would like to share your thanks with a member of staff, you can send a free e-card via Thank a Teacher. I know that any messages would be much appreciated.

It just remains for me to wish all our families a happy and restful half term break. Year 11 students will obviously be continuing their revision, and this is important, but take time out to rest and recuperate too. We look forward to seeing everyone bright and early on Monday 1st June.

Assembly This week, Mr Whitworth has been delivering assemblies on the six learning habits at Harrow Way Community School. These habits are important because successful learning is not just about intelligence or talent, but about consistently using behaviours that help knowledge stick and understanding deepen over time. Paying attention, thinking hard, participating, practising, asking questions, avoiding distractions, and being prepared to make mistakes all help students learn more effectively. These habits support concentration, memory, confidence, and resilience, helping students become more independent and successful learners both inside and outside the classroom.

GCSE Contingency Day 2026 The Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) has set aside Wednesday 24th June as the GCSE Contingency Day 2026. This means that pupils need to be available up until this day to sit an examination even if their timetabled examinations finish sooner. The reason for this day "is to reschedule exams if a national incident or widespread disruption prevents them from taking place as planned, ensuring all students have a fair chance". If a pupil is unable to attend this date "they will be considered absent and will not receive a grade for that component". We therefore strongly advise that you do not make any plans to go on holiday until after this date.

Some of it has been purchased to specifically support year 7 readers who require reading support through our Reading For Success Program. Photo below. Students can see what's new on the homepage of Reading Cloud. They can also see suggested reading lists, check their own account , write book reviews, see the Book of the Week and more. Link here. There is an app available too.
Our new Romantasy genre collection saw a lot of excited interest earlier this week.

Bath University ‘Sports Science in Action’ Trip On Monday 40 GCSE PE and NCFE Health & Fitness students visited Bath University.
Along with a tour of the campus, including seeing their world-class sports facilities, the students also experienced fitness testing and a strength and conditioning circuit.
The highlight of the day was the opportunity for all to use some of the fitness testing equipment that GB athletes, including the GB bobsleigh and skeleton teams use to help monitor the fitness and record improvements. These included a VO2 max test, Wingate power test and various strength tests.
The group also had the chance to talk to current university students about their experiences of university. An excellent day was had by all, and they can now apply all they have learned in their course.
