Friday 27th March 2026

Good Afternoon,

We end the Spring term on a positive note. I am delighted to share the exciting news that we have appointed our new Student Leadership Team! Following a rigorous selection process, these students have demonstrated excellent leadership qualities, creativity, and a strong commitment to making our school an even better place.

The interview process was thorough and challenging, involving both group and individual interviews. Each candidate was required to deliver a short presentation, and we were incredibly impressed by their thoughtful ideas and confident delivery. Their passion for our school was evident throughout, making the decision-making process extremely difficult, as all students showcased the qualities needed for the role.

Last week, I had the pleasure of spending two afternoons alongside Mrs. Everett, Head of Year 10, and our current Head Prefects, Nela Treder and Callum Bell, interviewing the applicants for the prestigious Head and Deputy Head Prefect positions. It was a hugely rewarding experience, as the students displayed great insight, confidence, and maturity. Their dedication and enthusiasm left us incredibly proud.

On Monday, we took the opportunity to thank our outgoing Head Prefects for their exemplary conduct and invaluable contributions before announcing the new team. Callum and Nela spoke with pride about the impact this role has had on their personal growth. In a wonderful assembly filled with applause and encouragement from their peers, they helped me to present our new student leaders with their ties and badges, marking the beginning of their leadership journey.

Please join us in congratulating our new Student Leadership Team for 2026-27! I am thrilled to introduce our new Head Prefects, Izzy Hill and Leighton Reardon, supported by our Deputy Head Prefects, Erin Foley, Demi Adefowoju, Tom Webb and Louis Carrott. Alongside a strong and committed prefect team, they are eager to take on their new responsibilities after Easter and make a meaningful impact on school life. We are confident that they will be fantastic ambassadors for our school, and we look forward to seeing their contributions in the months ahead.

As it is the end of term, I want to extend my thanks to our dedicated staff for their relentless hard work and to our parents and carers for their ongoing support. Education is a partnership, and through this shared commitment, we provide the best opportunities for our students.

We look forward to welcoming students back bright and early on Monday 13th April, ready for a positive and purposeful start to the new term.

A gentle reminder that we will move to summer uniform from Tuesday 5th May. Until then, students should continue to attend in full school uniform. We would really appreciate your support in ensuring that any uniform items—particularly shoes and trousers—meet our expectations, so that all students are ready to learn and represent the school with pride.
I want to wish you all a restful and enjoyable break.

I want to wish you all a restful and enjoyable break..

Assembly - Year Leaders
Year 7 - Wow! I cannot believe that you have completed two whole terms of Harrow Way and what a way to end it with our celebration assembly. We rewarded students for having 100% attendance (what an incredible achievement). Imagine not having a single day off since September - you really are demonstrating the Harrow Way value of resilience in abundance. This term we also rewarded students who have had the most improved attendance since January. We recognise that there are times when people are genuinely ill and need time off and so we wanted to recognise those students that had made a particular effort to increase their attendance. Finally, this half term we have had a big push on attending extra curricular clubs and everyone who had attended a club went into a draw for the most converted prize of all.... a “skip the queue” pass for the pod!

Year 8 - This week's assembly was an opportunity to celebrate the successes of this term. Cat Meiksane won the Literacy Award for Oracy in Art.  We also celebrated students who had demonstrated the Harrow Way values:
Be Kind: Holly Wylde,
Be Resilient: Evie Smith,
Have Integrity: Jacob Whincup,
Be Respectful: Tilly Ruse,
Be Ambitious: Lily Whyte.

All of the tutors also gave an Easter Egg to their tutee of the term; someone who goes above and beyond and who helps make tutor time a highlight of the day for our tutors. We gave Easter treats to 2 students who still have 0 behaviour points. This is still over a third of the year group: too many to name here, so well done to all of you! We also celebrated the tutor group who had the lowest behaviour points this term: 8SHS! Well done!

Year 9 - The Year 9 celebration assembly was a great opportunity to recognise everything students have achieved so far this year.

Many students have shown real resilience and determination, especially when faced with challenges, and their efforts have not gone unnoticed. As the term comes to a close before Easter, the assembly was a chance to celebrate these successes and encourage everyone to keep striving for their best.

Year 10 - As the Spring term comes to a close, this week’s assembly was an ‘eggcellent’ opportunity to celebrate our ‘eggceptional’ Year 10 students where I very much enjoyed handing out plenty of Easter related prizes. Of course I took the ‘hopportunity’ to throw in a few Easter puns too!

We recognised students who still have 100% attendance since the start of year 10, those who maintain eggsemplary behaviour, individuals who have met our five Harrow Way school values and even those who have made a concerted effort to improve their attendance and behaviour since December. Tutors also selected their ‘Tutee of the Term’ and we shared eggsactly why they have earned this accolade. Likewise, it was a chance for tutees to also applaud their tutors and give thanks for their unwavering support. Our celebration assemblies fill the room with warmth, positive energy, unity and praise - it’s one of my favourite moments as Year Leader. Until next term, I wish ewe all a wonderful Easter!

Year 11 - This week Year 11 celebrated their final full term at Harrow Way. Next time we all gather in the auditorium it'll be to say our final goodbyes! What a fantastic term they have all had and we are incredibly proud of them all.

Year Leader End of Term Updates

Year 7 - Year 8 - Year 9 - Year 10 - Year 11

Year 7

What another incredible term for Year 7! Can you believe that they are two thirds of the way through their first year of secondary school? Before we know it they will not be the ‘babies’ of the school anymore!

I am so proud of how well they all conduct themselves around the school. Everyday I have members of staff coming up to me and saying how polite they all are. Their manners are incredible and a credit to all of you.

It has been another busy but short term and we have still managed to cram so much into it.

Valentine’s Disco
This was another fantastic event where it was so lovely to see the students having so much fun with each other. Some great moves from the students and less impressive moves from the teachers!

Pizza Time!
We love rewarding students at Harrow Way and this term we rewarded those students who had the top effort and attitude grades in their most recent report with a pizza party. The students were even more excited when they realised the pizza was not coming from the canteen but from Papa John’s! The fact that the pizza was late did not dampen their excitement.

The average effort and attitude grade for these students was so high which is a reflection on just how hard they work each and everyday. They are such a credit to our year group and the wider school community.

World Book Day
Our year group was introduced to our annual World Book Day door competition this year and there were some truly amazing efforts! We had six incredible entries (see below) ranging from the classic Peppa Pig to everyone’s favourite The Gruffalo. It was incredible to see the tutor groups giving up their time to collaborate in order to bring their marvelous creations to life.

Sporting Success
As a competitive and keen sportsperson I am over the moon that our year group has shown such commitment and dedication to their sports clubs and matches. We have had some amazing successes over local teams (especially our friendly rivals John Hanson!) and this has not been isolated to just one sport - we have had convincing victories in netball, rugby and football! I can’t wait to see what we achieve in the Summer term when we switch to sports like rounders and softball.

Looking Forward
We have got loads more to look forward to in their last term as Year 7 - we have a reward trip to Marwell Zoo, Chessington World of Adventures and our inaugural Year 7 and 8 music festival (watch this space for more information on this very exciting event).

Mrs Roberts, Year Leader for Year 7

Year 8

Mostly this term, Year 8 have been cracking (🐣) on with learning.  I’ve been really impressed at the level of maturity, and the focus and commitment to learning from Year 8 this term, with most students demonstrating no fowl-play at all this term.

More of our tutor groups have been Student Receptionists.  I’ve had some lovely comments from the reception staff about how polite and helpful Year 8s have been.  While I always knew how great all my Year 8s were, it’s been great to see some of our students really coming out of their shells with other members of staff.

We’ve continued to meet as a year group council team and Connor and Hamish have taken our year group concerns to the school Student Council. All of the tutor groups have come to our meetings with really sensible ideas about changes that they would like to see implemented at school.  I’ve been really proud of how committed they have been to giving something eggstra back to the year group.

Our tutor groups got so involved with World Book Day! There were some brilliantly crafted doors and, more importantly, some great teamwork. I love seeing their creativity, especially when it centres around a cracking good book!

This term we also held Year 8 Parents’ Evening. Thank you all for the great turn out; It was lovely to see lots of you as you signed in and out. The term has culminated, fittingly, with all our students making mature and academic decisions by choosing their Pathways choices.

It hasn’t been all hard work with no play. We finished this week with Year 8 Inter-tutor competitions.  All of the tutor groups have competed at welly-wanging, hula-hoop caterpillars, and group river crossing challenges, leading to the chance to win an egg hunt on Friday morning. It’s been lovely to see them work together and show that their tutor groups really are all that they’re cracked up to be.

Apologies for the hare-larious Easter puns.  Year 8s, I have some treats for the first few students to let me know correctly how many Easter puns you have found!

Mrs Ford, Year Leader for Year 8

Year 9

Easter Holidays
As we approach the Easter holidays, this is a really important time to stay focused and make the most of our lessons. The weeks leading up to the break are a great opportunity to consolidate what you’ve learned this term, ask questions about anything you’re unsure of, and show your best effort in class. It can be tempting to start switching off as the holidays get closer, but finishing strong will make a big difference to your progress and confidence. Let’s keep up the positive attitude, support each other, and aim to go into the break feeling proud of what we’ve achieved.

Year 9 Pathways
Now that you’ve chosen your GCSE options, you should feel proud of the thoughtful decisions you’ve made about your future. These subjects will form an important part of your journey into Year 10, so it’s important to stay positive and committed to the choices you’ve made. Remember, every subject you’ve picked offers new opportunities to develop your skills and knowledge, even if some feel more challenging than others. Keep an open mind, stay organised, and be ready to put in your best effort. This is an exciting next step, and with the right attitude, you can make real progress and success in the years ahead.

Well-being
Looking after your wellbeing is just as important as doing well in your lessons. Year 9 can sometimes feel busy or even a bit overwhelming, so it’s important to take time to rest, stay active, and do things you enjoy. Make sure you’re getting enough sleep, eating properly, and talking to someone you trust if something is on your mind. Remember, everyone has ups and downs, and asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. By taking care of yourself, you’ll find it easier to stay focused, feel more positive, and be your best both in and out of school.

Highlights
The Year 9 trip to Thruxton Circuit was a fantastic experience and a great way to celebrate everyone’s hard work. Although the day got off to a slightly unexpected start when the coach dropped us off at the main circuit rather than the go-karting track, it certainly added a bit of adventure and gave us something to laugh about. Once we made our way to the correct track, everyone had an amazing time racing, showing great enthusiasm, and supporting each other. It was brilliant to see such positive behaviour throughout the trip, and the day was a well-deserved reward for all your efforts this year.

Reward trips are a great way to recognise and celebrate students who consistently demonstrate positive behaviour and strong attendance. They are not only a chance to enjoy a fun experience outside the classroom, but also a way of showing that effort, commitment, and the right attitude do not go unnoticed. By meeting expectations and taking pride in your conduct and punctuality, you give yourself the opportunity to take part in these trips and represent your year group positively. These rewards are well deserved and should motivate everyone to continue making good choices and striving to be their best every day.

Conclusion
As we come to the end of term, I’d like to wish you all a very happy and restful Easter break. This is a great opportunity to recharge, spend time with family and friends, and take a well-earned break from school routines. When we return, we’ll be heading into an important part of the school year, with plenty of opportunities to keep building on the progress you’ve already made. I’m really looking forward to seeing you all back, ready to work hard, stay positive, and finish the year strongly. Enjoy your break and take care!

Mr Massiah, Year Leader for Year 9

Year 10

A Term of Inspiration, Opportunity and Pride

The Spring Term has been an incredibly busy and rewarding one for Year 10, filled with opportunities to inspire, challenge and celebrate our students. From January through to the Easter break, it has been a term defined by ambition, engagement and a growing sense of maturity as students continue their GCSE journey.

A significant focus this term has been on careers and raising aspirations. Our students embraced a range of opportunities designed to broaden their horizons and encourage them to think about their futures. Highlights included the Get Inspired Day in Basingstoke and the Skills for Life Day, where students engaged with employers and explored potential career pathways. Through a variety of activities and guest speakers, students demonstrated curiosity, enthusiasm and a willingness to step beyond their comfort zones. These qualities will serve them well in the years ahead.

The term has also been rich in cultural and extracurricular experiences. Students have taken part in Dance Live and Dance Share, showcasing creativity, teamwork and confidence. Year 10 took part in the heats with other year groups and came third! World Book Day also provided a fantastic opportunity to celebrate reading across the year group, while the Ski Trip offered adventure, resilience and unforgettable memories.

Most recently, students attended a trip to see Othello, further enriching their understanding of literature and performance beyond the classroom. Finally, some of our Year 10s touched down in Barcelona on Wednesday; a fantastic opportunity to explore a city full of majestic landmarks, culture, history and cuisine.

One of the standout moments of the term though has been the Prefect application and interview process. We were thrilled to receive such a large number of applications, and the calibre of candidates was exceptionally high. Selecting Senior Prefects proved difficult, and choosing our new Head Boy, Head Girl and their Deputies was no easy task.

I was immensely proud of every student who applied. All presentations were professional and inspiring, filled with numerous ideas that we could implement to improve our school - this made the selection process even more challenging. Students presented themselves with maturity, confidence and thoughtfulness, truly embodying the values of our school. They were and are a credit to their families.

Then on Monday, we held an assembly for Year 10 where we revealed our NEW Prefect Team. It was clear from the reception of the rest of the year group, that the right choices had been made. There was an eruption of excitement and applause - another momentous moment that will forever be remembered.

As we look ahead to next term, there is much to anticipate. Year 10 will experience their final Sports Day, begin their pre-public examinations, enjoy a trip to see Blood Brothers and hopefully, a reward trip to Thorpe Park. High attendance and good behavioural choices will be taken into account. With Year 11 preparing to leave, our current cohort will soon become the oldest in the school; a role we know they will rise to with confidence and responsibility.

It is also time for the year group to say a fond farewell to Mrs Crossley. She visited the year group this week, giving us the opportunity to thank her for all she has done as the Head of Year and to wish her every success in her new endeavours. She has made a lasting impact on the year group and will be greatly missed. However, I am delighted to be continuing as the Head of Year and look forward to guiding them through the remainder of Year 10 and into Year 11. Alongside Mrs Branston-Jones, Mr Mann and our phenomenal team of tutors, we are committed to supporting every student to achieve their very best. I have no doubt that great things lie ahead for this exceptional group of young people.

Wishing you all a restful and enjoyable Easter break.

Mrs Everitt, Year Leader for Year 10

Year 11

You have now completed your final full term of secondary school - what an incredible milestone that is! It’s hard to put into words just how proud we are of each and every one of you. This term has demanded so much: resilience, focus, determination and you have delivered all of that and more. You are so close now! It truly shows in the way you are approaching everything with such maturity and purpose.

The Final Practice: PPEs
This term has, of course, been dominated by your PPEs - your final set of practice exams before the real thing begins. They were tough, full-on, and at times exhausting, with long days and the pressure of back-to-back exams. But despite this, you showed real diligence and commitment. The way you conducted yourselves in the exam hall, the effort you put into your revision, and your determination to keep going, even when it felt challenging, has been fantastic to see. These exams were not just a test of knowledge, but of resilience, and you rose to the occasion.

Going the Extra Mile
It has also been brilliant to see so many of you attending after-school revision sessions. Choosing to stay behind, to push yourselves that little bit further, and to make the most of the support available speaks volumes about your mindset. We are incredibly proud of those of you who are putting in that extra effort - it will make a real difference. Keep it up, as every bit of work you do now is an investment in your success this summer.

Many of you also had the opportunity to attend a performance of Othello in Winchester this term. It was a unique experience, with the theatre almost entirely ours (aside from a small number of members of the public). What stood out most, however, was your conduct. You were exemplary audience members: respectful, engaged, and a credit to the school throughout. I can’t not give huge credit to our GCSE Dance and Drama students who gave fantastic performances, really showcasing their hard work over the last couple of years.

To celebrate all of your hard work this term, we are ending with an exciting reward trip to Thorpe Park - your last ever school trip! This is a chance to relax, enjoy yourselves, and spend time together after such an intense and demanding period. You have absolutely earned it and we hope it’s a day full of laughter, memories, and a well-deserved chance to let your hair down.

The Final Stretch
As we look ahead, the next few weeks will see your GCSE exams begin. Everything you have worked towards is now just around the corner. But alongside the exams, there is also so much to look forward to: your Leavers’ Assembly and Prom, moments to celebrate your journey and the memories you’ve created together over the years.

This is a truly special time. While there is still hard work to be done, there is also excitement, pride, and a real sense of achievement in everything you have accomplished so far. We could not be prouder of the young people you have become, and we have every confidence that you will continue to rise to the challenge ahead. The finish line is in sight - keep going!

Mrs Woodhead, Year Leader for Year 11

Good News Section!

Science Week - Bridge Design Competition
Mrs Piper organised a fantastic challenge for Year 7 and 8 Science lessons to build a bridge to span 40 cm. Students were in groups of 4 and had a £200 budget to purchase materials for their build. Our amazing science technicians ran the shop and pupils really enjoyed exchanging paper money for their items!

This ranged from cardboard to drinking straws! The teams designed their bridges, wrote a list for materials to buy and build their bridges. The winning team’s Bridge held 500g of mass. The proud boys are shown in the photo below. Well done to George, Luca, Drew and Samuel!

Other Science week activities included a scavenger hunt to find key attributes scientists must have and a tutor time session looking at non-stereotypical Scientists.

GCSE Contingency Day 2026
The Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) has set aside Wednesday 24th June as the GCSE Contingency Day 2026. This means that pupils need to be available up until this day to sit an examination even if their timetabled examinations finish sooner. The reason for this day "is to reschedule exams if a national incident or widespread disruption prevents them from taking place as planned, ensuring all students have a fair chance". If a pupil is unable to attend this date "they will be considered absent and will not receive a grade for that component". We therefore strongly advise that you do not make any plans to go on holiday until after this date.

Ways Forward

Ways Forward - our weekly newsletter for Careers, Apprenticeship, College, Work and Work Experience.

In Ways Forward this week we're focusing on careers in the Creative Industries, speech and language therapy, NHS health careers, and the Oxford University Student Conference. As usual we highlight local apprenticeship vacancies that Year 11 students might like to apply for.

LEARNING RESOURCE CENTRE UPDATE

Many of our super new stock titles have been borrowed this week following their promotion. In order to continue to offer a great selection, we need loans returned. We are currently following up on some very overdue unreturned loans and are contacting parents by email before raising the charge. Students will already have received numerous automated email reminders. Your support will be appreciated. Our policy can be found here. Thank you.

We promoted Shakespeare Week with accessible versions of most of his work including comic and short versions of the KS 4 and GCSE texts. Tolkien Day also featured a display this week - The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings remain popular. World Theatre Day is today.

Our Hampshire Book Award judges have got off to a great start - I am impressed by how much they have read and by their insightful comments about what they have read. Some favourite books have already started to emerge.

We were thrilled to hear again from the author Dan Freedman who got in touch to let us know how impressed he was by the feedback from our year 7 Reading Groups on his work on a new book . His comments were shared via video with the students involved.

SPORTING NEWS

Year 7 Football v Winton
The Y7 football team continued their stellar opening season with a comfortable win at Winton on Tuesday afternoon. In somewhat blustery conditions, the travelling side made hard work of the first ten minutes before opening the scoring.

Hamzah scored four in total, with Alex Wood chipping in with one direct from a corner. Bobby Walker added two late on from the substitutes’ bench, and Lucas Horan also found the net after some great team play.

Captain Sam Chewins could have put the scoreline into double figures, but several gilt-edged chances were spurned, with one effort in particular being scooped over the bar from close range in the first half.

The team will now eagerly await results from across the district, with high hopes of a top-of-the-table finish.

Year 8 Football v The Clere
The Y8 football team suffered a narrow defeat to The Clere on Thursday afternoon, despite producing arguably the best football they have played in two seasons together. From the opening whistle, the team moved the ball confidently, passing with purpose and creating strong connections all over the pitch.

After a good goal from the home side crossing into the box in the first ten minutes, Harrow Way composed themselves and played out an evenly matched first half. In the second, the game followed a similar pattern until an uncharacteristic error of judgement from Scott Murphy  inside the penalty box allowed the opposition to take the lead from the spot. That moment proved decisive, with the home side eventually holding a two-goal advantage going into the final fifteen minutes.

Refusing to give in, the visitors began to play with real intent.Jake Slade pulled a goal back after some neat work down the right wing from Fernando Goncalves and Mitchell Anoma, giving the team renewed belief and setting up a tense finish.

Several late goalmouth scrambles suggested that a dramatic equaliser might be on the cards, and it looked for a moment as though the team might rescue a draw in the closing minutes. However, the final whistle came before they could find the breakthrough, with the match finishing 2–1.

HEAT DO THE DOUBLE!
On the 12th and 18th March the HEAT U16 basketball team played Henry Beaufort School from Winchester both home and away. Winning each game by one point, this was an extraordinary performance against a Hampshire League team made up of mainly tall Year 11 players (we have a mostly Year 10 team!)

In the first game Neyo Furtado scored an amazing 16 points to keep the HEAT in contention with one quarter to go. HEAT started the 4th quarter badly but then Alan Elzanowski went on a 9 point scoring spree hitting jump shots from all over the opposition's half. With 5 seconds left Alan was fouled on the shot and went to the line with the scores tied. He missed his first free throw and then nailed the second! With seconds counting down the Henry Beaufort team scrambled the ball down the court and threw a long range 3 pointer but missed. HEAT won! MVP was Alan Elzanowski for hitting 14 points and the game winner!

In the second game our guests were back for revenge. They outplayed the HEAT who were struggling to find form. Missed shots and layups meant that by half time we were level (just). The 3rd quarter was poor for the HEAT and tension built up. The writing was on the wall with HEAT being 6 points down and not looking that they could respond. Coach Carter reminded the HEAT boys that if they wanted to win, they had the ability and the talent to win it. The HEAT came out fighting and the game was now an end to end affair with Neyo Furtado leading the way with impressive layups. With 2 minutes on the clock the HEAT were still 4 points down, so Coach Carter called a time out and changed the defence to a full court man to man to pressurise the opposition.  It worked and slowly but surely the team raised their game, increasing steals and feeding Furtado with lay up chance after lay up ensuring that at the buzzer the HEAT won again by 1 point! Incredible game and Neyo Furtado hit 22 points becoming the definite MVP. Well done lads!

Sporting Success
Huge congratulations to Tilly and Ameila for an incredible Cheerleading performance this weekend!

Competing against 20 talented teams, they powered their way to an amazing 2nd place finish — a result that truly reflects their hard work, dedication, and team spirit.

Representing the Wild Cat Warriors with pride, Tilly smashed it in her role as back base, showing strength and consistency, while Ameila held it down as main base with skill, control, and confidence. Together, with their team they were an unstoppable force!

You’ve both done yourselves and your team so proud — this is such a fantastic achievement, and just the beginning of even more success to come.
