I can’t quite believe that our first half term is nearly at an end. How have seven weeks passed already? It has been a busy, but very successful first term and I am proud of all that we have achieved. Our students have been a credit to you and approach school with great positivity. Seeing their huge smiles every day is a joy.
It is clear that our new Year 7 students have settled in beautifully and have a strong sense of belonging. At Harrow Way, we want every student to feel they are an important part of our school community. We cultivate this through our tutor groups, our clubs, forums and our year groups but perhaps most effectively through our House System. Students are so proud to tell me which House they are in and Year 7 students show me proudly how many stamps and house points they are collecting each week. I wonder, who will win the House Cup this year?
Clubs, fixtures, and other extracurricular activities are a vital part of school life, complementing classroom learning while helping students develop new skills and friendships. We have loved seeing so many students getting involved in clubs and fixtures this term.

We have loved seeing so many students engaging with our wide-ranging offer—from sports and drama to coding and choir. Students have been making new friends, exploring interests, and discovering passions they might never have tried before. Year 7 and Year 8 are especially looking forward to the Halloween disco tonight!

Over the last week, our students have had the chance to experience a wide variety of educational visits. There were theatre trips to London to see Hamilton, an Art visit to Kew Gardens, and a magical trip to Harry Potter Studios. Year 11 students attended the Andover Careers Fair, while Year 9 and 10 Computer Science students visited Bletchley Park.

And there’s more - over 80 students and staff will be travelling to Haut de France next week, staying at Château du Broutel and enjoying cultural visits, such as the Somme Museum, as well as fun days out including Disneyland Paris. Updates will be shared on our Instagram account, and I am sure the experiences will be both inspiring and enriching.
I also want to pass on heartfelt thanks to our staff, who dedicate so much time and energy to organising and leading these exciting opportunities for our young people.
Helen Keller said “Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much”. I am proud of all we have accomplished so far, but this is only the beginning. I am looking forward to seeing what more we can achieve this year.

Assembly In assemblies this week, Mr Fluellen spoke to Years 8, 9 and 10 about how films and TV are maybe not the best places to find role models for respect and manners as we are often looking for escapism and characters that challenge society when using media for fun. He also looked at when media has been used to try to teach us manners and how the use of a clown puppet to teach primary school students lunchtime manners created the notorious Mr Bungle.
Year 7 was visited by the Gideons distributing Bibles to the year group while Year 11 had an informative presentation about college life from Peter Symonds College.

BRAIIN Autism Project We would like to let you know about a very important initiative we are working on called the ‘Autism in Schools’ project. We are working alongside Hampshire County Council and BRAAIN (Be Ready ADHD ASD Information Network) to deliver this project, which has been commissioned by the NHS Integrated Care Board (ICB) to improve the quality of provision, well-being and outcomes for Autistic and Neurodiverse children and young people in mainstream schools across Hampshire.
|
|
|
|
BRAAIN’s role within this project is to work with parents, carers and the school; to be the link between home and school and to promote a collaborative approach to help the children and young people at the heart of this project.
Your help, support and views are very important to the success of this project and we would really appreciate it if you could spare a few minutes to complete this online survey anonymously: Harrow Way AiS Parent/Carer survey
If you would like any further information regarding this, please do not hesitate to contact our school SENCO Mrs Law.

Year 11 Important Information
|
Year 11 Additional Learning Opportunities We are delighted to share that there has been an excellent uptake of our Year 11 Additional Learning Opportunities, which take place every morning. It is wonderful to see so many students engaging enthusiastically and benefiting from the additional support provided. We would like to extend our thanks to parents and carers for their ongoing encouragement and partnership, which play such an important role in helping our pupils achieve their very best.
Interventions, such as these, work best if they are targeted at a key group of students all working towards the same goal. For this reason, not all students are attending every intervention. Please be assured that further Additional Learning Opportunities are scheduled to begin over the coming months, opening this opportunity up to many more students. After Christmas, English, Maths, Science will also be offered weekly after school sessions to ensure that all our pupils are best prepared for their GCSE examinations.

Y8 Five-A-Side Development Tournament
|
|
|
On Tuesday a five-a-side football tournament was held to give players outside the usual match squad an opportunity to demonstrate their ability and make a case for inclusion in the main team. The event featured ten teams in total, including two sides representing Harrow Way.
Both Harrow Way teams performed exceptionally well. The Harrow Way A team were crowned tournament champions, winning every match without conceding a single goal! There were pleasant surprise performances from Junior B, whose consistent goalscoring proved vital throughout the competition, and from Finley O, who snagged the winning goal in the final to secure the first place finish.
The Harrow Way B team also impressed, finishing a strong fifth overall with several excellent displays of teamwork. Bentley H stood out as the side’s key performer, showcasing his leadership on the pitch.
A huge well done to everyone who represented the school so proudly. The Year 8 team now boasts plenty of competition for places!

Year 7 Football Match Report The Year 7 football team made a hugely impressive debut performance, securing a commanding 12–1 victory in their first outing of the season against Danebury. From the first whistle, Harrow Way showed confidence and teamwork, dominating possession and creating chances throughout the match.

|
|

There were standout goalscoring performances from Hamzah Kashifi, who netted five goals, and Sam Chewins, who added three well-taken strikes of his own, including a headed goal that stands among the best seen on Harrow Way’s hallowed turf. This sharp finishing and attacking play set the tone for the team’s dominance.Further goals came from a variety of players, highlighting the depth and balance within the squad.
This was an exciting debut performance that showcased the team’s potential for the season ahead. With such a strong start, the Year 7 side can look forward to future fixtures with confidence and ambition.
Year 8 Football Match Report – Harrow Way vs Testbourne On a lovely autumn evening, the Year 8 team faced Testbourne in what proved to be a closely contested match. Harrow Way made a bright start, taking an early lead through confident attacking play and good movement off the ball. However, despite their promising opening, the team was unable to hold on, eventually falling 2–1 to a well-organised and clever Testbourne side.
The visitors grew stronger as the game progressed, and while Harrow Way worked hard to regain control, a lack of confidence in front of goal proved costly for a side still searching for their first win of the season.
Defensively, there were strong performances from Archie Burgess, whose composure and awareness at the back helped keep the scoreline close. Despite a few half chances in the second half, Harrow Way were unable to find the breakthrough needed to equalise.

Year 9 Netball - Harrow Way 5 - 12 The Clere Harrow Way put in a determined performance against a strong team from The Clere. Despite the final score, the girls showed excellent effort throughout the match, Ivy and Lexi working hard to break down The Clere’s defending plays.
The Clere’s defence was particularly strong, with players making some great interceptions and applying consistent pressure in the circle. Although Harrow Way found it difficult to convert opportunities in attack, their teamwork and perseverance never wavered.

A great effort from the whole squad against tough opposition! Player of the Match - Ruby N (GD).
Year 9 and 10 Rugby On Thursday, the combined Year 9 and 10 rugby team hosted John Hanson in what proved to be an excellent contest. From the first whistle, both sides played with determination and commitment.
The first half was tightly fought, with neither team able to break through early on. Eventually, Akari P found a gap and made the most of it, sprinting in from over halfway to score the opening try. Taylyn W added the conversion, giving Harrow Way a 7–0 lead at half-time.
Early in the second half, Taylyn reacted quickly to a defensive lapse following a penalty and crossed under the posts, converting his own try to extend the lead. John Hanson responded strongly, using the width of the pitch well to score two well-worked tries, closing the gap to 14–12.
Refusing to be rattled, Harrow Way pushed back. Logan A powered over from close range, with Taylyn once again adding the extras to maintain a perfect record from the tee. John Hanson struck back with another converted try, narrowing the score to 21–19 with five minutes remaining.
The closing stages were fiercely contested, but the Harrow Way lads showed real resilience to hold on for a hard-earned victory. The team was well captained and encouraged throughout by Tom W. A cracking game of rugby, played in great spirit, with every player contributing to a well-deserved win.
