School Closure Letter – Thursday 25th June 2026
As promised, I am writing with an update regarding our plans for school tomorrow, Thursday 25th June 2026.
Following a warm night, despite our best efforts to keep learning spaces as cool and comfortable as possible, temperatures in most areas of the school are unreasonably high. The forecast for tonight and tomorrow indicates even higher temperatures and, having carefully considered all available measures, I do not believe that we can safely or reasonably mitigate the risks these conditions present to both students and staff.
I must also consider the well-being of students travelling to and from school, with temperatures forecast to reach 35°C from around midday tomorrow, when students would be walking home.
For these reasons, the school will be closed to most students on Thursday. This has not been an easy decision, and I appreciate that it may cause inconvenience for many families. However, the safety and wellbeing of our students and staff must remain my overriding priority.
Learning will continue remotely, with teachers providing appropriate work via Bromcom so that students can continue their education from home.
We will provide a small, supervised on-site provision for vulnerable students ONLY who either have an EHCP, are LAC or those who are supported through a Child in Need (CIN) or Child Protection (CP) plan. These students will access their online learning under the supervision of the senior leadership team. If your child falls into one of these categories, and you would like them to attend school tomorrow, please complete this Google form by 5.30pm today. The canteen will not be open tomorrow, but students can order a packed lunch in advance.
If your child will not be attending school but receives Free School Meals, parents are able to collect a packed lunch from school tomorrow morning. Please complete this form so we are able to cater appropriately. If you have more than one child at school who is entitled to free school meals, please complete a separate form for each child.
If you feel that you are unable to keep your child safe at home and would like to discuss access to this on-site provision, please contact Mrs Woods via her email: katy.woods@harrowway.hants.
If we do not hear from you by 5.30 pm today, we will assume that your child will remain at home and access their learning remotely.
Finally, I would like to thank you for your continued support and understanding as the school responds to these exceptional circumstances. I recognise that this situation is far from ideal, but whilst making these decisions, my focus has remained firmly on the safety, wellbeing and best interests of our students and staff.
Thank you for your understanding.
Yours faithfully
Mrs DL German
