Welcome back to the Summer Term. I am delighted to welcome three new members of staff to the Harrow Way community: Mr Ryan Williams, Teacher of Maths, Mrs Radka Wigmore, Teaching Assistant and Mrs Hannah Browne, HR Assistant. We’re excited to have them join our team and know they will make a positive impact on our students and school.
After months of hard work and preparation, our talented students and dedicated staff have brought the magic of Bugsy Malone to life on stage. With such a large number of students involved, it has been a joy to see their enthusiasm, teamwork, and creativity - I am absolutely bursting with pride. A heartfelt thank you to Mr Manson, his fantastic team, particularly Mr Paxton as Director, and the many members of staff across the school who helped to create such a memorable experience. Let’s not forget that this is a collective effort. None of it would have been possible without the support of our wonderful parents -whether helping with costumes, ensuring attendance at rehearsals, or supporting with late collections after each performance. Thank you.

This production has been about far more than just a show; it’s a celebration of friendship, collaboration across year groups, and the sense of belonging that makes Harrow Way so special. Belonging does not just happen, it is built. In assemblies this week, I spoke about the importance of taking the initiative and getting involved. Everyone involved in this production knows that pride in the performance comes from shared effort. If you haven’t seen it already, there’s still a chance to catch the final show this evening.
Year 11 are now on the final stretch, with their official exam season just around the corner. Mr Townsend spoke to them this week, offering essential reminders about arriving on time and bringing the correct equipment. This cohort has worked hard throughout the year, attending revision sessions and staying focused in lessons. They deserve to succeed. Harrow Way has a strong track record of excellent outcomes, and we are confident that this year’s students will continue that tradition.
It’s also important that we teach our young people balance: when you work hard, there should also be time to celebrate. I know many students are looking forward already to the Year 11 Prom which has been arranged for Friday 19th June. It promises to be a special evening to celebrate not only the end of exams, but also five memorable years at Harrow Way.
Next week, we are welcoming contractors back onto site as building and refurbishment works begin. A new modular building, complete with air conditioning and up to date IT facilities will provide additional classroom space and will be located between our Dance Studio and the MFL modular building. Harris fencing will be installed to ensure our students’ safety. In late June, contractors will move into C block to complete renovations for our new Resourced Provision and revamped Link. These enhancements will benefit the whole school community, and I look forward to seeing them take shape.

Assembly - Headteacher This week, KS3 students took part in an assembly encouraging them to recognise the positive difference each of us can make through everyday actions. Through simple reflections, students considered the “gap between noticing and doing”; those moments when they see something that isn’t quite right, and the importance of choosing to act. In a rapidly changing technical world, the assembly highlighted the enduring importance of human connection, kindness and responsibility. We were especially proud of the 65 students who put themselves forward for prefect roles, demonstrating that true leadership lies not in titles, but in the choices we make each day. Students were reminded that a strong sense of belonging doesn’t happen by chance, it is something we build together through our contributions, whether in lessons, activities or the small moments that shape our community.

School Transport - Important Update The following update has been made to the School Transport Mainstream Code of Conduct and will take effect from Friday 1 May 2026.
What Is Changing - From Friday 1 May, operators of all routes where the Council issues a bus pass have been advised to only accept passengers presenting a valid pass for their allocated route. Every passenger will be required to show or scan their pass when boarding. Please note that temporary passes issued by schools will not be accepted.
A copy of the parent/carer communication is available here.
The Council will be monitoring bus usage and carrying out ticket inspections. We may visit some schools and travel on selected routes as part of this process.
We would be grateful for your support in reinforcing this message with students ahead of Friday 1 May. The Council can re-issue passes to any passenger who has lost theirs. Passes can be requested by completing this form.

Tia Brown - Clear of Cancer We received some very special news about one of Year 10 students this week. As a small child, she was devastatingly diagnosed with cancer. Today, we congratulated Tia Brown on finally being discharged from hospital. After going back and forth for treatment and tests over the last 10 years whilst in remission, Tia is celebrating her triumph over cancer now that she is cured. In our assembly, we took the opportunity to recognise her exceptional courage and perseverance by rewarding her with a certificate. Along with Mrs Branston-Jones, Mrs Tunney and the rest of the school community, we are beyond proud of Tia and exceptionally pleased that the long-term clinic has finally discharged her. I think you will all agree that this news is truly uplifting, moving and encouraging - it brought joy, hope and reminded us of the profound strength our young people can exhibit. Mrs Everett

GCSE Contingency Day 2026 The Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) has set aside Wednesday 24th June as the GCSE Contingency Day 2026. This means that pupils need to be available up until this day to sit an examination even if their timetabled examinations finish sooner. The reason for this day "is to reschedule exams if a national incident or widespread disruption prevents them from taking place as planned, ensuring all students have a fair chance". If a pupil is unable to attend this date "they will be considered absent and will not receive a grade for that component". We therefore strongly advise that you do not make any plans to go on holiday until after this date.

Netball - 8A v Testbourne A Although it is the start of the summer term, the sun certainly wasn’t shining for the 8A match against Testbourne A on Wednesday and we had to move inside to play the fixture.
The slightly shortened game certainly did not mean any reduction in entertainment. From the first whistle it was a closely contested affair with the scores 4 a piece at half time. After a constructive team talk the girls slowed their game down a little, allowing an improvement in the quality of their passing, in the attacking third. Alani and Holly in defence also altered their play to make it harder for Testbourne’s agile shooters to receive passes close to the post. At the end of the 3rd quarter it remained at deadlock with the score 8 all. The final quarter saw both teams push for victory and with Harrow Way having a scoring opportunity in the last 10 seconds of the game we couldn’t quite convert. The game finished 11-11, with both teams having given their all.
Player’s player went to Alani. Coach’s player was Natalie for an excellent game in Wing Attack.

Year 8B - Harrow Way 4 v Testbourne B 8 Harrow Way took on Testbourne in an indoor match due to the weather, with short, sharp quarters that gave the girls very little time to settle into the game. The fast pace showed early on, as Harrow Way started a little panicky, trying to find their feet and build some rhythm. Despite this, Harrow Way managed to put away two goals, keeping things level at 2–2 by the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Harrow Way looked far more composed. Scarlett impressed with some well-taken shots, while Lily and Eva worked tirelessly to link play and create opportunities. The team began to move the ball with more confidence, showing real determination to stay in the contest.
However, in the third quarter, Testbourne found another gear and began to pull away. Their attacking play became more clinical, and they capitalised on their chances, making it difficult for Harrow Way to keep up.
By the final whistle, Testbourne had secured an 8–4 victory. Despite the result, Harrow Way showed great improvement after a nervous start and plenty of positives to build on for their final game of the season on 30th April.
Player of the Match - Scarlett. Coaches Player of the Match - Eva.
