Monday marked National Offer Day, and I am delighted to share that we are full for September, having received well over 400 applications. We extend the warmest welcome to all of our future Year 7 students and their families – we cannot wait for you to begin your Harrow Way journey.

Thank you to everyone who completed our recent Parent & Carer Survey. Your thoughtful responses, both positive and constructive, are valued. This is how we work in partnership: by listening carefully, reflecting honestly and acting purposefully.
We were incredibly proud to read so many comments recognising our strong leadership, clear values and community feel. Parents spoke warmly about:
- The passion, expertise and commitment of our staff
- High expectations combined with care and moral purpose
- Strong pastoral and SEND support
- Effective behaviour systems and safeguarding
- Students feeling safe, known and happy
- The breadth of our curriculum and preparation for life beyond school
- Extra-curricular opportunities, trips and enrichment
Most importantly, many families described Harrow Way as caring, supportive and ambitious for every child. That means a great deal to us.
Alongside this, parents shared thoughtful suggestions about how we can improve. Stretch and challenge for our most able students remains a key priority within our School Improvement Plan, supported through curriculum refinement and staff development.

Homework continues to generate discussion. Following our recent surveys, we have invited parents to a forum so we can explore this together. We are also aware that the Bromcom app has not been as user-friendly as promised; we have raised this directly with the company and an improved interface is due shortly.
Regarding uniform, we have been working to secure a second supplier, in line with DfE guidance, and ensure our plans for September are practical and affordable. I look forward to sharing a full update after Easter. Thank you for your patience.

Some parents commented on our site and facilities. While large-scale developments such as an astroturf pitch sit beyond our current budget, our priority remains high-quality teaching and staffing. We are pleased that Local Authority investment in our resourced provision will also bring improvements that benefit the whole school community.
We are also seeking planning permission for a covered outdoor area; I hope to share positive news soon.
As always, we will publish a clear infographic summarising key findings and the actions we are taking as a direct result of your feedback. Thank you for your continued support and honesty. Together, we will keep building a school community in which every child feels known, challenged and inspired to succeed.

Assembly - National Careers Week It is National Careers Week and Mr Fluellen has been talking in assembly about the possible trouble with old cliches like 'follow your dreams' or Reece Witherspoon's recent advice to 'follow your talents'. Businesses are telling us that 'skills' are the thing that matters most to them and so perhaps the best advice is to follow your skills - something that can be developed and learnt. Perhaps we should be asking your people not 'what do you want to be when you grow up' but 'what do you want to do'?
Do always check out our weekly Ways Forward - our newsletter for Careers, Apprenticeships, College, Work and Work Experience where we collate all the useful information that we sent each week for families.

National Careers Week This is National Careers Weeks and is the final week of Harrow Way's Careers Month of activities. It is always important to make links between the skills being developed in school an student's future careers but we always try to have some extra activities in school around this time. Guest speakers in school this week have included Bex Rungen who spoke to Media Students about hair and make-up careers and techniques in the entertainment industry and the Army that spoke to Year 10 about the varied skills and roles needed in the modern armed forces.
The army also ran team building and problem solving activities as part of our Skills for Life Day for Year 10 alongside sessions run by school staff on coding, volunteering, work experience and skills profiles.

If you or your employer would be interested in supporting future student careers activities in school then please get in touch - we are always looking for more speakers and opportunities for our students to experience.

DFE - Education Record App As you may have seen in the news the Department of Education (DfE) is introducing the Education Record app for current Year 11 students. This app will allow students to access their education information on their mobile phones as a secure education record.
It will contain:
- Student name, date of birth and address
- Schools they have attended
- Official exam results for qualifications like GCSEs
- Any support they will require
We have been invited to be part of the first phase of this exciting project facilitating students' access to this app, and more information about this process will be shared with you in the coming weeks. If you would like to find out more information now you can access it on the DfE website.

Sponsorship Of New Harrow Way Community School Basketball Team On Friday 27th February 2026, Jaqui and Louise from the The Jamie G Sporting Trust presented a cheque for the sum of £950.00 to the Harrow Way Community School to develop Basketball at the school. This sponsorship was specifically allocated to provide the team with high-quality playing kits, new basketballs and an electronic scoreboard.
Founded in memory of Jamie Gentleman, the Trust is managed by family and dedicated committee members who work tirelessly to provide financial support to local sporting clubs and aspiring athletes. Mr Carter, coach of the "Heat" basketball team has created a boys and girls basketball team and they are playing competitive games against other schools. Recently the Year 9 boys won a 3 on 3 basketball tournament at Danebury School. Mr Carter commented "Without the Jamie G Sporting Trust we could have not developed basketball at such a fast rate or played competitive games and myself and the pupils are truly grateful for this".

LEARNING RESOURCE CENTRE UPDATE

It was a pleasure today to see the creativity of 18 tutor groups who 'dressed' /decorated their book to reflect a book for World Book Day. A small selection in the photos below. The results will be published in school on Monday.
The author Dan Freedman is one of the authors we keep in touch with and he sent us a World Book Day message which was shared with tutor groups. Some Year 7 students have also had the opportunity to read a sample chapter of his new book for 2027 titled Game Changers and to provide him with some feedback.
One of our Year 10 girls recently had her book published and it is available to buy on Amazon. She was invited to the Library to speak to students about her inspiration, the plot of her book and to answer questions from budding authors.
Next Week - British Science Week and the launch of Hampshire Book Awards. The latter is for Year 8 - if your son/daughter enjoys reading, if you would like them to read more, if they would benefit from the social interaction and confidence building this provides, do encourage them to come in to register their interest in taking part.

County Cross Country A sunny Tuesday afternoon was welcomed by the twelve Year 7 and 8 athletes who travelled to Basingstoke to represent the Andover District in the Hampshire Cross Country event.
With fields of up to 150 participants in each category, nerves were certainly present on the start line, but as the hooter went every member of the team dug deep and raced hard to put in some excellent performances.
With the top 15 in each race qualifying for the next round in Aldershot to represent Hampshire, Zach produced the best result of the day, finishing the U14 Boys event in 10th.
Sam finished the U13 Boys race in 17th, but is hoping to represent Hampshire if others are unable to compete. For the girls races, Izzy was our first finisher in the U14 Girls and Alicia was our first U13 girl. It was a challenging afternoon but a great experience was had by all.

Year 9 Netball Friendly - HW 32 - 8 Winton The Year 9 team hosted Winton in a friendly fixture on Wednesday afternoon. It was a lovely reward for the continuing commitment to the netball club despite their league finishing at Christmas.
In this league fixture, the 9B team fought out a well-deserved draw, but this time round it was a much more comfortable affair. Harrow Way dominated from the first whistle, scoring easily and remaining tight in defence. Most notable was Willow, stepping out of her usual role as GK, this time played GS and did an excellent job.

An excellent way to finish off their matches this year, I look forward to seeing what Year 10 brings for this team.
Player of the Match - Ivy. Coach’s Player of the Match - Willow.
Year 9 Boys Football - Winton 0 - 2 Harrow Way Our Year 9 football team got back to winning ways after a short break, with a 2-0 win away at Winton. The first half performance from both sides lacked a bit of aggression and quality, with very few chances being created and a few misplaced passes. It seems that the boys have been watching a lot of Arsenal this season, with a lot of the game being spent with the ball out of play and plenty of set pieces being taken. The game was goalless at the break, and just needed a bit more oomph to get it going.
Not long into the second half, the game was brought to life when a ball came down the right hand side and found Ollie Dawe, who cut into the box and struck the ball sweetly across goal into the far corner, with a little help from the inside of the post. Absolute scenes followed in the celebrations, and suddenly the boys were well up for the fight. At 1-0, the game started to open up with chances for both sides. After yet another set piece, the ball fell to the Winton forward, who poked it towards goal and forced Guy Freeman into an excellent save with his outstretched leg to hold the lead for Harrow Way. After a lot of digging in defensively, the ball was cleared by Arthur Faye up towards the Winton goal. There was a bit of confusion between the Winton goalkeeper and defender, and Diogo Vaz Moreira was there to capitalise on their hesitation to poke the ball home and secure all three points. The boys saw out the last few minutes, determined to hold onto the clean sheet and took home the 2-0 win. Well done boys.
District 10-a-side Rugby Tournament The first match against Wellington started slowly. Organisation in both defence and attack wasn’t quite good enough, with too many players following the ball rather than holding their positions. After a stern tactical talk at half time, the team began to work together more effectively and showed much better awareness. The improvement paid off, with Hamzah Kashifi scoring all four tries in a 4–2 victory.
The second game against John Hanson showed far more promise from the start. Harrow Way began strongly and quickly ran in two tries, with Hamzah scoring first followed by Faosiy Adeyefa, giving the team a 2–1 lead at half time. Clay Mead and Reuben Brown were outstanding in defence, showing real determination and pressing hard on the attacking players, leaving them with very few options.

The final match against Testbourne would decide the tournament, and by this point the boys were playing with real confidence. The team’s energy and defensive intensity were excellent. Harry Trussell opened the scoring with a powerful run, Hamzah added another try, George Homer powered over the line, and Sam Chewins finished things off to seal a convincing 4–1 victory.
Three wins from three games was a fantastic achievement. Clay Mead was deservedly awarded Player of the Tournament, demonstrating immense defensive pressure, strong tackling and powerful attacking play throughout the competition.
