Despite the huge disruption of numerous national lockdowns in 2020 and 2021, Harrow Way students and teachers are celebrating the class of 2022 this morning.

Many staff joined the students as they collected their results to share the moment and a delighted Headteacher Michael Serridge said: “These students have not had an easy time of their secondary education, with national lockdowns during Years 9 and 10 resulting in lessons being delivered remotely. They are also the first cohort in the last three years to sit the summer season of exams. That did not hold them back though and I could not be prouder of our students who have shown both resilience and a commitment to their own achievement, the outcome of which is today’s fantastic results. I must also applaud our exceptional teaching and support team who, while remaining focused on academic excellence, have also encouraged and supported students throughout the last three years.”

An impressive 80% achieved grade 9 to 4 in English and 76% in Maths. 70% of the cohort achieved a grade 9 to 4 in both English and Maths. A number of curriculum areas delivered exceptional performances at grades 9-4, including Art 100%, Photography 100%, Dance 100%, Drama 100%, Music 100%, ICT 95%, Hospitality and Catering 93%, Health and Social Care 85%, French 87%, Media 78%, Philosophy and Ethics 78%, Spanish 75% and Science 75%.

There were some stand-out performances with a number of students celebrating a huge haul of top grades, including George Smallbones with grade 9s in Maths, Triple Science, Computer Science, History and Geography, Adrian Graham with grade 9s in Maths, Triple Science, French and a Distinction in Music and Charley Kinghorn who achieved grades 9s in English, English Literature, Art and a Distinction in Dance.
