Year 10 Football Round Up

October 18th, 2017

The last fortnight has seen a busy run of fixtures for the year 10’s. With three matches in two weeks there has been little time to recover and less time to train.

Coming off the back of a win last time out versus Winton, Harrow Way beat Test Valley on the 10th October. With a comfortable first half performance placing them two up at the break, Harrow Way dropped off in the second half and Valley came back strongly, possessing much of the ball in the Harrow Way defensive area. Keeper Jed Trengove put in a great performance behind the new defensive partnership of Alex Enright and Bailey Baulf who played very well. Valley got one goal back but Man of the Match Elliot Smith’s two first half goals were enough to see Harrow Way over the line.

The next fixture saw Harrow Way travel to Salesian College in the second round of the County Cup on Thursday 12th October as their busy calendar gave them little rest. They were nervy in the opening stages and conceded three goals in the first half from crosses that should’ve been dealt with. The relative inexperience of the defence letting a well organised Salesian side dominate the ball in the Harrow Way box. The second half saw Harrow Way put in a much more resolute performance. Coming close on a number of occasions that on another day would’ve seen the travelling side level the score. Salesian deservedly winning four nil at the final whistle. Thank you to Man of the Match Giles Davis for driving us and his Sat Nav for getting us home.

The final fixture of the term (17/10) saw Harrow Way succumb to a John Hanson side who demonstrated a brilliantly simple and effective way of playing the beautiful game. Harrow Way were capable of staying positive throughout a resounding defeat and will have learned much from the experience. The term ends with an even win loss record of two a piece with two fixtures left in the district league.
