Year 7 – New Forest Trip

July 22nd, 2013

IMG_0563Last week year 7 Geographers visited the New Forest to practice the many skills they have learnt over this past year. 50 pupils went on Thursday and 50 on Friday. Pupils enjoyed participating in a river study where they measured the speed of flow as well as creating a river cross section, by measuring the depth of the river across different points. Some pupils saw waterfalls (like Niagara but not as big!) and some managed to identify the different species of animals found in and around the river – including tiny frogs!

The second part of the day was spent learning essential survival skills where pupils filtered water, learnt how to make a fire and worked in teams to create their own shelter. Joe Aitkenhead 7JEC said ‘My favourite part was building the shelter. This was the best trip ever!’
