Year 8 Rugby Team Crowned District Champions (again)

March 4th, 2013

IMG_6643 At a very chilly Andover Rugby Club, the year 8 rugby team took on the rest of the district to defend and retain their crown. Having won the competition last season, the pressure was on them to ‘come up with the goods’ once again and the boys didn’t disappoint. With wins over Rookwood, Test Valley, The Clere, John Hanson and Winton Schools, the players were ecstatic about their overall performance.  Team captain Joseph Joy was awarded the ‘Player of Steel’ award. Rooky Oli Cox played exceptionally well considering he has played very little rugby until now and Sean Carr came back into the squad in jubilant fashion.

The year 7 team were able to demonstrate exactly what they are capable of by matching their year 8 counterparts’ wins over Test Valley, John Hanson and Winton Schools. Just one try separated them and Rookwood School in a game that effectively proved to be the final in many respects. This defeat was to prove decisive in the overall context of the competition as Rookwood went on to win. But with the Harrow Way year 7 team finishing an exceptional second place overall, everyone went home rejoicing about the state of rugby at Harrow Way School. Teacher and Director of Rugby Richard Peters had this to say: “This was the most impressive display of rugby from not just one, but two Harrow Way teams we have seen in a very long time. The boys train very hard and this is a fantastic conclusion to what has been a very successful season for both teams”.  To view a gallery of pictures, click here.
