NAIL BITING U.14 RUGBY RESULT

November 9th, 2012

The U14 rugby team had an extremely close encounter with local rivals Test Valley School on Wednesday night in a thrilling game that ended 12-12 at Harrow Way. The visitors scored the opener within 10 minutes but the home team responded in excellent style with a classic ‘backs’ try from Stanley North. A successful conversion attempt from recent newcomer Ben Black put Harrow Way in the lead at the break with a slender 7-5 lead.

In the second half, a string of poor tackles early on let the visitors through to score their second try of the game and saw them take a 7-12 lead. However, undeterred the Harrow Way boys fought back in convincing style and in the dying minutes of the game put the visitors under increasing pressure by pinning them back within their own 22. The pressure and determination eventually paid off in the final minute of the game with a game-saving try from Joseph Joy in the corner (in almost pitch black conditions!). At 12-12, Ben Black had an extremely challenging conversion attempt from just inside the touchline to win the game, only to see the ball fall just short of the goal.

Mr Peters said at the end of the match: “Refereeing this game was a real joy and it was the best display of rugby I have ever seen at Harrow Way School”.

For his dogged determination and excellent leadership, Mr Peters’ Man-of-the-Match was Joseph Joy.

Next match: Tuesday 13th November – Testbourne School (Home)
