Harrow Way welcomed to London 2012’s Get Set Network

Students and teachers at Harrow Way Community School are celebrating their official welcome to the London 2012’s ‘Get Set’ network, in recognition of the school’s commitment to the Olympic and Paralympic Values. Every competition, festival and tournament held at Harrow Way incorporates an Olympic and Paralympic value and the school has is keen to build London 2012 into all areas of the curriculum next year using ‘Get Set’ as support.

The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) awarded Harrow Way a plaque and certificate to acknowledge their involvement in the London 2012 education programme. Harrow Way is one of a number of schools and colleges across the UK who are members of this special London 2012 community – the ‘Get’ Set network – and will receive access to exclusive competitions and 2012 Games related opportunities over the next year.

In 2006 Lord Coe introduced the Young Ambassadors movement – individuals selected for their sporting talent and, more importantly, their outstanding commitment and ability as young leaders or volunteers. The role of a Young Ambassador involves increasing participation in school sport and PE, spreading the word of the Olympic and Paralympic Values – respect, friendship, personal excellence, courage, determination, inspiration and equality – and promoting the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
It was to Harrow Way’s Silver Ambassadors that Headteacher Charlie Currie presented the plaque and certificate. He said: “Students at Harrow Way are excellent examples of how London 2012 is helping to spark young people’s imagination and inspiring them to get involved and make a difference. They have clearly demonstrated that London 2012’s education programme extends far beyond PE and sport and I hope they will motivate other young people to join their journey.”

Sebastian Coe, chairman of LOCOG, said: “When London won the right to host the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, we made a clear promise to use the power of the 2012 Games to inspire young people.

“I am proud to welcome Harrow Way into the ‘Get Set’ network for their exciting work around the Olympic Values of friendship, excellence and respect and the Paralympic Values of inspiration, courage, determination and equality.”
