Harrow Way 14 John Hanson 11

On a superb summer’s afternoon, two bright-eyed eager teams took to the rounders pitch ready to do their best.

Both teams were inexperienced and have much to learn, however both teams did themselves proud with their spirited efforts. The level of sportsmanship was commendable and both schools should be proud of their teams. Harrow Way were much improved from their first match against Test Valley and were determined to achieve a win this time. The fielding was much tighter and there were few mistakes. The team members moved positions in order to find the right formation, hence Emma Helsdown switched from backstop to deep field and this had the desired impact needed due to her mobility and good, long throws.

Emma Jones was outstanding at 2nd base and led by example as all good captains should. Bethany Raynsford and Maddie Weeks contributed well at backstop and 1st base getting quite a few out.

The score was tight after the first innings with JH leading by 1 rounder 6 ½ to 5 1/2., but after a team talk between innings and much better hitting in the 2nd innings, HW managed to win 14 rounders to 11.

Well done girls. Hard work and concentration paid off.
