Tri Golf2Nine teams, made up of fifty four Year 5 children from Portway Junior, Knights Enham Junior, Kimpton Primary and Roman Way Primary Schools, arrived early and keen to take part in the second Year 5 Harrow Way Tri Golf Festival.

Waiting for them were Year 10 Sports Leaders and twenty Year 7 Young Leaders, who had undergone Tri Golf leadership training that morning.

Tri Golf1Each Year 5 team were given a name and were lead by two excellent Year 7s:
1. Portway Putters with Katie Roche and Nayana McGee
2. Kimpton Fairways with Adam Bourner and Joe Moulding
3. Knights Enham Pars with Shannon Allen and Ryan Hampton
4. Portway Chippers with Maddie Weeks and Kiera Hill
Tri Golf35. Kimpton Bunkers with Ben Cox and Owen Woodley
6. Knights Enham Eagles with Connor Durbridge and Dylan Patel
7. Portway Drivers with Harry Fitzpatrick and Robbie Taylor
8. Kimpton Greens with Fletcher Burbidge and Flo McClean
9. Roman Way Hole in Ones with Hannah McCague and Gemma Harper

The Year 10s, Kiaya Walters, Anthony Smith, Jess Darmanin, Kayleigh Watkins, Izzy Mumford, Lucy May, Danny Tuson and Charlotte Quarrier, along with Emily Francis-Pollin and Jasmin Rose, all had the responsibility of a different station each. The Year 10s were particularly keen to be impressive as they were going to be verified for the course on their communication and officiating. And they did not disappoint! In fact, they really impressed Pat Salmon, the Mountbatten Sports Partnership Development Manager, and have all shown that they can pass the Sports Leaders course. Well done to them!

After practising the nine different putting and chipping games, all the teams started the competition. They were officiated well by the Year 10s, and encouraged and supported excellently by their Year 5 Team Leaders. All the games were great fun but ‘Splash Down’ was a particular favourite!

One boy from Knights Enham Juniors said to his teacher: ” I’m having so much fun. I’m so glad I was chosen to do this competition – it’s such fun!”

While the scores were being added at the end of the competition, Miss Escritt praised all the teams for their excellent golf and super team work. They were all a credit to their schools. Miss Sturges thanked and praised all the Year 10 Sports Leaders and Year 7 Young Leaders who lead wonderfully. ” You have made me proud!”

All the competitors were presented with a certificate each. In Bronze medal position were the Kimpton Bunkers (354 points), in Silver medal position were the Portway Putters (383 points) and in Gold medal position were the Kimpton Fairways with an amazing 422 points. Well done to all teams for a great afternoon!
