Year 7 Football, County Cup Quarter Final

January 22nd, 2010

After a long journey down to Southampton to play in the county cup quarter-final, the boys returned in defeat, but with their heads held high. They came up against some very good opposition but fought bravely throughout the match. Whilst other teams might have let their heads drop, the lads held theirs till the end. None more so than Man of the Match Matthew Blake. He came up against two very good wingers and held his own making challenge after challenge to keep the score line low. Despite not having much of the ball the team played as unit and had a few decent attacks. Unfortunately one of these ended up in the third goal for Testwood just before half time. After that, the second half was an uphill struggle. Players were getting injured and we were forced into a goal keeper change half way through, with James Phillips replacing Callum Paxton. Despite the injuries the lads only conceded 3 goals in the second half against a side that won their local league without losing a single game. Although we lost 6-0, there were many star performances. George Baxter and Ben Cox won ball after ball in the centre of the defence. Adam Bourner puffed his way through the entire game without stopping running. I honestly believe he covered every blade of grass out there. The boys can also take heart that they will not come up against much better competition and did very well to get to the quarter-finals. We will be back next year, bigger, stronger, and hungrier for success.
