On Saturday 17th July, 2 Year 9 students, Sam Catton and Luke Holman, represented Harrow Way School in the Junior Boys’ section of the Hampshire Schools Cross Country Championships at Southampton Sports Centre.

An Andover Schools Athletics Team achieved something this weekend that has not been achieved for 35 years. They won team gold – and wow did they do it in style!

Eighteen Andover Schools’ athletes were competing in the Hampshire Schools Cross Country Championships, all aiming for a place in the Hampshire Schools team at the inter-counties match (top 16) and ultimately the English Schools Cross Country Championships (top 8 over the two races). This year, the Championships were held in the grounds of Southampton Sports Centre, a very hilly, muddy and tough course!

The Junior Boys, Sam Catton and Luke Holman, found the going a little hard over this tough course. In spite of their few years they persevered finishing 23rd and 46th respectively. Sam was the first athlete across the line for Andover Schools and Luke was the 2nd athlete to cross the line for Andover Schools; a big achievement for both boys. Well done!
