Years 8, 9, 10 and 11

Harrow Way took a team to the District Schools’ Swimming Gala for the first time in several years and a good time was had by all.

Team selection is always a struggle when it comes to swimming as the school does not have a pool and therefore relies on the students of the school volunteering to take part.

As usual our students came up trumps and took part willingly and with great spirit.

All races were either 25m or 50m in length and there were boys and girls races in freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly, backstroke and individual medley.  The event finished with mixed relay races.  There were notable performances from several individuals.

Jon Akehurst winning the butterfly races in fine style.  This was particularly impressive due to the fact that the stroke is so tiring and technical.

Megan Young performed well, winning her breaststroke races.  It was a great effort all round and the team spirit was phenomenal.

Rebecca Parker did a great job as team manager, ensuring everyone knew when their race was and keeping the team psyched up.  Matt Curtis took on the role of entertainments officer and kept everyone amused with his wicked sense of humour.

As usual, it was an absolute pleasure to have spent an afternoon in the company of such fine young people.
