Thursday evening witnessed the second challenge match of the half term, with the Year 10 eagles defeating their seniors from Year 11 by four goals to two. Once again the match was played in perfect conditions, and the two teams should be proud of their competitive performance. Both sets of players displayed the great attitude and character that has been a symbol of the eagles football teams over the last few years. The game itself was very evenly contested, and the 3-0 scoreline at half-time flattered the Year 10 team as the Year 11’s had the majority of possession. The senior team forced their way back into the game in the second half with two well taken goals to make the score 2-3, and an equaliser looked likely at that stage. However the Year 10 team kept their composure, and once again Josh Barnett proved the thorn in the oppositions side, with another superbly taken free kick. Just like on Tuesday evening against local rivals Winton, he placed the ball down, looked up, then struck the ball sweetly, swerving it into the top right hand corner of the goal. 4-2. Despite late pressure from the Year 11 players the scoreline remained the same, and Year 10 were the victors. Congratulations to both sets of players.
