‘Dynamite Donovan’ with explosive shot in last minute blows away Bayhouse!

What a game! Just when it looked all over, 3-2 down, one minute of extra time left, and two quick cup knockouts on the horizon, midfielder Ross Donovan broke Bayhouse hearts with a ferocious 30 yard drive into the top corner of the net. The rest is history, up stepped the players who had suffered penalty defeat previously and made no mistake this time. Victory for the eagles!

The game had started well for the eagles against a very good Bayhouse team. Bayhouse were struggling to get in the eagles half and plenty of chances were created, with Goodson hitting the bar with a great strike as the eagles dominated possession. However it was Bayhouse who took a surprise lead against the run of play, and it looked like the same old story of missed chances proving costly. Half time 1-0 to Bayhouse. The second half action went from end to end with both teams creating good opportunities. The eagles eventually equalised after a period of pressure, and the game continued to be closely contested. Danny Urry was again outstanding, and with Nathan Ayling dropped back into midfield providing good support play, and Ross Donovan causing problems upfront, the game edged back into the eagles favour. Both sides scored one more goal each and the full time score was 2-2. Extra time was fiercely fought out and when Bayhouse scored in the second half the game looked over. With one minute left Donovan won the ball in midfield and with no one in support he decided to let fly. The ball screamed into the top right hand corner of the net to the jubilation of the eagles players. Bayhouse looked demoralised, and the referee blew for the end of the game seconds later. The players shook hands and waited by the half way line as the penalties began. Ayling scored the decisive penalty after Bayhouse had missed twice. Victory against the odds had been achieved, and it was again thoroughly deserved. Mr Wade and Mr Hudson would like to credit the players on their determination and effort. Well done boys, you’ve been tremendous for over 4 years, and there have been many great results, but this one is up there amongst the best, and you deserve to make further progress. Well done Danny, Nick, Stuart, and Nathan on the penalties!
