In their first ever football match for Harrow Way School the Year 7’s put up a battling performance against their local rivals. The young ‘Eagles’ led by their captain Jake Akwei displayed good teamwork and very good skills as they outplayed their opponents in the first half. They thoroughly deserved their 2-0 lead at half time with Joe Lucy controlling the midfield and Chris Sandland feeding the forward players well. In the second half it was evident that the eagles began to tire and Test Valley took control of the game. Two well headed goals tied the game at 2-2 and it looked like extra time would be needed to settle the result. In the last minutes Test Valley piled on the pressure and scored a third which settled this cup tie in their favour. Although the boys were obviously feeling down after this cup knockout, they can take pride in their first half performance and the way they conducted themselves throughout the game. They showed great sportsmanship, and with greater fitness levels they will be a match for most teams in the county over the next few years. Mr Wade and Mr Hudson were both pleased with the effort displayed, and hopefully the eagles will get their chance to avenge this defeat in the District Cup in the new year.
