Good afternoon,

Assemblies - House
This week in house assemblies the winners of the Y9 Dodge Ball and Christmas Card Design competitions were announced. Kestrels stole the show with an amazing 51 entries - see below for the finalists.

There was a staggering 42 entries for the first round of the Great Harrow Way Bake Off completion with Buzzards having a clean sweep for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Prize. The judging for the second round of the Great Harrow Way Bake off is in progress - staff are busy judging 480 cupcakes - probably won't want any dinner tonight!

Pupils were asked to support the Christmas Fair on the 8th December from 4-6.30pm - stalls include a Christmas BBQ and lots of sweet treats, festive games and competitions, Santa's Grotto, Santa Sports and a Big Screen Mario Kart.

Students were alerted to the next house competition - a penalty shootout starting next week.

Portway Infants Year 2 Catering
On Wednesday Morning 18 year 2 pupils from Portway Infants visited Harrow Way. The children had a wonderful time making cookies in pairs. They were lovely children who were impeccably behaved, they even did all the washing up to a very high standard!!

French Visitor
We have welcomed Mme Aline Coquenet to Harrow Way this week. Mme Coquenet is currently studying the French equivalent of NPQH in order to become a headteacher. For this, she has to study various aspects of school leadership, including curriculum arrangement and school improvement. She was keen to visit our school as she knows it is an example of good practice. She spent the week shadowing members of the SLT, participating in Learning Walks and lesson observations as well as observing SLT meetings and interactions with staff and students. Additionally, as a maths teacher, she was very keen to observe how we teach Maths in England. (Her school is piloting a project where they will teach Maths in English to improve both mathematical ability and linguistic skills.) Mme Coquenet has loved our school; she is very impressed with the quality of teaching and learning as well as the positive interactions between students and teachers. She has enjoyed her week so much, she has asked to come back next term!

Reports for students in Years 7-10
These are now available to view on the SIMS Learning Gateway. Year 7 parents were e-mailed their login, passwords and instructions earlier this week. If parents reading this have not received these details, could they please check their Junk Mail/Spam boxes. We have received many requests for login detail notifications and password resets and are working our way through these.

This is the first of three times when we report to parents on student progress and effort and attitude. The information in the report should allow parents to discuss with their child how they are getting on in lessons and progressing in their learning. If effort and attitude is 3 or below, meaning it is not where it currently needs to be, this would be an area for you and your child to consider how to improve. It is always pleasing to see how well students have engaged with their learning and making progress.

Educational Visits
Although there have not been major visits going out this week, smaller groups of students have been out furthering their knowledge and experiences. Following on from their visit to Hampshire IT, the digital leader group visited the Ocado warehouse to look at automation; music students were able to use the recording facilities at Andover College's Music Studio and GCSE PE students used the climbing facilities at Calshot to demonstrate and be marked on their skills as part of their final qualification. Year 7 students also visited Icknield School as part of their Harrow Way Guarantee.

Year 10 Parents Evening Information
The on-line bookings programme will close at 10.00am on Monday 27th November for parents of Year 10 students to book appointments for the parents evening later that afternoon. Parents have been e-mailed instructions for this process.

Year 10 Work Experience Week
Year 10 parents have been sent an e-mail with a link to an explanatory letter giving dates and details of next Summer's Work Experience Week for Year 10 students.

Sporting Fixtures
Year 7/8 girls football won their match last week 8-1. Year 7 boys football were not so successful this week, losing 4-0 to John Hanson.

Year 11 boys played a great game of basketball this week, narrowly losing to Testbourne. Excellent play from the team - well done!

SEND Forum
Thank you to all the parents that completed the Google Form for our SEND Forum. There has been a great response. It seems that evenings are most popular so Mrs German is are looking for a mutually convenient date with HPCN and will be in touch soon. She will be in contact using the email addresses parents provided. If there are any other parents interested in the Forum, please do complete the form here: https://goo.gl/forms/hSPPf17ovQRncbBI3

Parking
Considerate Parking

Parents are politely asked not to use Charlton Hill Surgery car park as a drop off and collection point for children. The parking space there is limited and needed for patient use. There is also a safety issue with children crossing the car park at busy times.

Uniform

Labelling items of school uniform is very important - especially PE Kit. We return named items that are found. Even the best laundry pens fade over time, so please check your child's uniform regularly. We do have unnamed kit in Lost Property.
