School Visits
Visits this week include a Year 9 Art Visit to Southampton City Gallery, a workshop for our Year 9 girls promoting Digital Leaders, a visit to Ocado by our girls Computing Club and an Art Visit to the Tate Gallery by our Year 10 students.
Assemblies
Students attended House Assemblies this week and were reminded of the various House Competitions - opportunities for your children to earn House Points, prizes and even £1000! The Stranger Sagas short story competition is now on with entries to be given to Mrs Burningham in the Learning Resource Centre. Students can take part in the Maths challenge any time from now until the end of term. The more Maths they do, the more points they earn. More information is available from your child's Maths teacher. The Secret Life of Toys photography competition is also now open. Entries must be emailed or handed to Ms Fowler in E2.
The deadline for all these competitions is Monday 26th March!
World Book Day
Our postponed World Book Day celebrations took place this week and were worth waiting for! We were very proud of the 18 tutor groups who decorated their classroom doors to reflect a book of their choice and the worthy joint winners were 8JCM and 10KRJ, pictures can be viewed here. This event was a great opportunity for students to collaborate on a fun team task. In addition, many students took part in other events such as decorating potatoes as book characters and guessing the identity of staff hidden behind books in photos. These activities all earned extra house points and promoted some great reading.
Reformed Examinations
For those parents with students in Year 10 and 11, these slides taken from Ofqual demonstrate the changes to the examination structure that will affect your children. This is also a useful link explaining the process.
Sporting Achievements
6 qualifiers from a previous competition in Years 7 and 8 competed in the County Cross Country Championships in Basingstoke where they did well in events that had up to 120 competitors. The full report can be read here.
The Year 7 Netball Squad came out as Test Valley Champions at a recent tournament. See the website for a full report.
Our Year 7 football team played a good match against strong competition from Testbourne which ended in a 2-2 draw - well done!
Our Year 7/8 Sports Leaders led and officiated at the Year 3/4 Indoor Athletics competition this week. Mrs Salmon was very proud of the way they worked with the pupils and adults from our Primary Feeders. A pat on the back all round!
Business Studies
You may remember last year the Business Studies department ran a Market Place in the auditorium after school with the students. We're doing the same thing this year with current year 10's. They have come up with their own new business idea and have been busy making their products over the last couple of weeks.
On Tuesday 13th March between 3 and 4pm they will be holding their marketplace, selling their products. It would be great if you could come down and support the students. Bring some pennies with you too as there are some great handmade products available.
