Friday 7th September 2018

Good afternoon,

Welcome back to the new school year and a very warm welcome to autumn term 2018 at Harrow Way.

I trust you all had a suitably relaxing / exciting / revitalising summer break and are once again 'raring to go' in your respective roles.

A particularly warm welcome, of course, to all our new Year 7 students and their parents. I have to say we have all been mightily impressed so far with our new starters; their behaviour and appearance have been impeccable, they are showing boundless energy and enthusiasm for school life and their beaming smiles are proving infectious. On only the second day, a group of particularly smiley girls ran up to me at break time to announce that they had already forgotten about their primary schools as they were enjoying Harrow Way so much.

Well done to all the Year 7s for a great start and a huge thank you to all the staff, particularly Mrs Ford (Year Leader), Miss Escritt (Transition Manager) and their team of tutors for easing the transition process for our youngsters. It's early days but things bode well for this next generation of Harrow Way students.

Welcome to all our new staff too and I hope they're not too exhausted after their first full week at Harrow Way. We wish them the best of luck and a successful and enjoyable time with us.

Please do take a few minutes to read through my letter home.

I do enjoy the rigours, the routine and the stimulation of school life, so in many ways I'm glad to be back. I just have the gut feeling that it's going to be another great year at Harrow Way (we seem to have the formula) and hope you will all assist in making it so.

From Good to Great – our Mantra for 2018-2019!
We believe that great schools never stand still and strive at all times to excel in every area of its performance, for the benefit of all our young people and other stakeholders.

In our common pursuit for excellence for all, we believe that everyone in our community must be involved in our strategic forward planning. From robust and honest self- evaluation of where we believe we are at the end of academic year 2017/18, we have put together our key priorities for 2018-2019. I shared these with staff on the INSET day and reminded everyone of our vision below.

At Harrow Way Community School, we have a simple ambition: to be the finest secondary school for miles around.

By this we mean that all our students will receive a better education at Harrow Way than they would at any other local establishment. We want Harrow Way students to leave us with:

  • Better qualifications than they would achieve in any other school
  • The skills and attributes needed to live and work in tomorrow's global society
  • The values and morals to be good citizens
