I am writing this on Friday morning and reflecting on the wonderful school performance last night of the brilliant musical 'Little Shop of Horrors' - What a fantastic way to finish the Spring term! The Performing Arts Department started in September with auditions. The hope was to bring together all year groups in a shared experience that they would remember happily for a long time; an experience for them and their parents to cherish. One that an audience would admire for their commitment and the high standard of the cast and musicians involved. Over the following weeks the costumes, set, dance routines, acting and songs began to fall into place. The anticipation on first night was palpable and the students duly delivered.

The play was a great success and one that all performers, musicians and backstage crew, from all year groups, can be justifiably proud. The wonderful comments and praise from the audience was a huge thank you and reward for the drive and the resilience of all students and staff involved.

Year 11
Our Year 11 students have been working extremely hard in preparation for their forthcoming examinations, and the Easter holiday is time for them to put the finishing touches to their revision programmes as we enter the final run-in to the examinations, which begin in earnest on 13th May. Mr Reed has emphasised to Year 11 in assemblies over the last few weeks how deeply we, as teachers, care and how hard we work for the students but, in turn, they have got to want it. We acknowledge that it's tough for them, particularly with the unknowns, the variables of these new GCSEs and that there is inevitably a degree of pressure on young people, but what's new?
Year 11 Media students were visited by local screenwriter, Julian Unthank, who provided invaluable insight on the production process behind crime dramas to help them prepare for their exams. Julian has written for shows like 'Doc Martin' and 'Robin Hood' and his new crime drama 'Queens of Mystery' launches in America on Monday. He had already given time up to talk to students from other years earlier this term and we are really grateful for him sparing time to come and give an insight into the behind the scenes side of the industry.
Little Shop of Horrors
Take a man eating plant, a murderous love triangle and sadistic dentist (aren't they all?) and you've got everything you need to open your own Little Shop of Horrors. Our talented student actors, dancers and musicians have joined together to showcase the best of the performing arts department in this year's fantastically macabre musical. Some tickets are still available for tonight's show 7pm to 8:30pm. Join us... if you dare!
Assemblies - Celebration
Year 7 assembly celebrated examples of amazing work and positive feedback from across the school, from amazing work produced in History and great effort in English, to students making a great start in our climbing club and being conscientious citizens. We also reward our Tutees of the Term with Easter creme eggs. Well done to Joby Hayes (7CSM), Jess Nash (7TMF), Kai Hone (7KJS), Liam Smith (7SHS), Jasper Jones (7JPM), Albie Head (7HMH), Ethan Stamper (7EJN).
All Year 8 pupils received a small sweet token to celebrate the end of term. Pupils were then treated to the postponed 8SF assembly on "What is Religion". What a fantastic assembly looking at tolerance and developing religious understanding.
Year 9 Celebrated the term by rewarding everyone who achieved 100% attendance from Easter or had better than good on average across their report. Awards were also given out to Tutee of the term. We are looking forward to '21' Inter tutor competition in the Summer and also we have auditions coming up for creating the Year 9 rock band. Exciting times ahead. A fond farewell was also given to Mrs Lowing who is going on to work with Year 10 after Easter.
Mr Cade took his final Year 10 assembly this morning. His Year 10's continue to celebrate many successes, with awards presented for 100% attendance since September, 100% attendance for the term and demonstrating a positive attitude to learning all year and throughout the term. Further awards were given to the following students who demonstrated absolute excellence, and collecting the highest stamps amongst each tutor group: 10NBA - Eray Tozer (918), 10EM – George Chivers (891), 10BPC – Callum Grindley (855), 10LW – Katie Rackley (837), 10KH – Zachary Marshall (823), 10JG – Ruben Nichols (800). He added "Finally, I would like to thank Governors, parents and carers for their continued support, in the journey of developing all of our students into ambassadors of our community. Good luck and all the very best for the future!"
Bingo Evening
Thank you to all those who attended our Prize Bingo evening, arranged by our Enterprise Club. We raised over £500 on the night, which Barclays have kindly matched to provide £1,000 for the Countess of Brecknock Hospice. Thank you too to all the parents and members of the community who donated and supported the evening.
Ski Trip
Over the Easter holiday, our annual Ski Trip will depart to Aosta Valley, Italy. Departing on the 14th April, we wish students and staff a bon voyage and a great week's skiing! Keep an eye on the school Twitter feed for updates!
