Friday 29th September 2017

Good afternoon,

Open Evening - 26th September
We held our Open Evening on Tuesday evening this week. We had a fantastic turnout and I would like to thank all the students who gave up their free time to help during the evening. We have had lots of feedback about how helpful and knowledgeable they are. Year 11 prefects have also given tours to nearly 60 families during our Open Mornings this week and are to be congratulated on their honesty and depth of knowledge. There is a link to my presentation and new school prospectus here.

Assemblies
Mrs Woods took assemblies this week, and talked about keeping safe, Years 7, 8 and 9 discussed road safety, personal safety, e-safety, bullying and who to speak to in school. Year 10 and 11 were given information on personal safety, mental well being and where they can get support in school. The presentation for Years 7-9 can be viewed here. The presentation for Years 10 & 11 can be viewed here.

European Day on Languages
We celebrated the European Day of Languages on 26th September 2017 with staff speaking foreign languages in lessons and other activities around the school. The languages team produced a quiz to use during tutor time. Do have a go at it! We also made a video of staff speaking different languages: https://youtu.be/weu9CUa2I7s

Operation Encompass
Operation Encompass

Harrow Way has been given the opportunity to take part in a project that will run jointly with Hampshire Constabulary. This initiative is called Operation Encompass.

The aim of this initiative is for the police to share information with the school, in a more timely manner, when a child or young person has been exposed to or involved in an incident of Domestic Abuse. This information is already being shared with school but there are often delays. This new initiative improves the speed of the information sharing to the school to allow early support to be put in place for a child when it may be needed the most. This will support the long term wellbeing of children affected by domestic abuse.

The information shared will be received by the Designated Safeguarding lead in school, who is appropriately trained to manage this information. All information is treated in confidence in the same manner as all safeguarding information. If you would like to know more about Operation Encompass please visit: www.operationencompass.org
