It has been a very busy week with Open Evening and Open Mornings. The School always looks pretty damn good but this week we looked even more splendid than normal! This year Open Evening and Open Mornings were another resounding success. Thank you to all the staff and students in advance for all their efforts. We saw an unprecedented number of people come to our school to find out what we do, how we do it and how it will benefit their children.
Parents, carers and families were invited to join us for tours of the school, interactive subject-based activities, fun in the labs, the sportshall, art rooms, D&T workshops and dance, drama and music rooms. The auditorium was packed out for my two presentations, with standing room at a premium at the back and a queue of people waiting to enter in reception. This was followed by two very successful open mornings with tours conducted by our wonderful Year 10 Students.
Feedback from those who attended, already indicates that people were impressed with what they saw, the enthusiasm shown by our staff and pupils and the potential for their child or children:
"On behalf of my husband and I, could I please give a huge thank you for a fabulous evening. Your students are an absolute credit to you; they were polite, kind and are obviously very proud of their school. Our only problem now is how we are going to get through the next year as our son is so excited and cannot wait to join and become a part of what is clearly a great secondary school. Once again thank you and we look forward to an acceptance in the near future."
"Just to let you know that we attended the evening session. The school was excellently presented and everyone involved should be very proud of the work they put in. We were guided around by one your pupils who was well spoken and knowledgeable and this combined with the variety of interactive events around the school meant our daughter and son both loved the visit."
"I just wanted to convey our thanks for the wonderful tour this morning and open evening on Tuesday. The 2 Year 10 girls who showed us around couldn't have done any better job of making us feel welcome and answering all of our questions (and there were many). As soon as we entered the reception we could tell that the students were proud to be members of Harrow Way Community School and all staff we interacted with were so positive about all aspects of the curriculum, pastoral care and the leadership of the school; there was a real sense of collaboration between staff and students. As a deputy head myself I would hope that parents left my school feeling as my wife and I did last night. And we are sure that if our daughter is successful in gaining a place at Harrow Way she would be well cared for and extremely happy."
European Day of Languages
Year 7 students produced some amazing cakes to celebrate the European Day of Languages. Mlle Machu gave an assembly for Years 7-10. Photos of the impressive and tasty cakes can be seen here. Tutor groups also had a language quiz to complete.
Andover 215 Project
10 life size soldiers have been collected and ready for year 7s to decorate commemorating the 100 year anniversary of the end of the first World War! Once complete, they'll be displayed at Vigo Park along with 215 others decorated by other local schools for the Andover 215 project.

School Visits
Year 11 students have had the opportunity to see their Shakespeare set work, Othello, performed at The Globe Theatre. Students enjoyed the opportunity to see the play performed as it would have been in Shakespeare's day.
A group of Year 10 students are attending a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) event at Longleat today.
Last week, Year 7 students joined with other Andover schools in celebrating Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots International Peace Day at Harmony Woods. With the support of town officials and the amazing team and volunteers from Andover Trees United, with whom Harrow Way is an ambassador school, the day was full of excitement and joy! Hundreds of doves with written messages and pledges were flown and the giant dove was carried through the beautiful Harmony Wood. A tree was planted in honour of both this day and Dr Jane Goodall, who had recorded a personal video message for the children. Watch a short video of the day here.
