Friday 23rd March 2018

Good afternoon,

The Easter Edition of the Eagle Newsletter is at the printers, and will be sent home via your child next week. It will also be available to view on our website. As usual, the back page will have important dates for the Summer Term.

Year 9 Curriculum Meetings
Thank you to all parents who attended the meetings this week to discuss the GCSE options subjects for their children in Years 10 and 11. We had a fantastic turnout. I really enjoy these conversations. Link here to the video and presentation that would have been shown at Monday's cancelled Curriculum Evening.

Year 8 Parents Evening
Year 8 Parents now have access to the online booking system to make appointments for the Parents Evening on Monday 26th March with a deadline of 11:55pm on Sunday 25th March. Full details have been emailed to parents.

Assemblies - Tutor
7HPB looked at times when their fellow students had been discriminated against because of their religion, race and gender. An excellent assembly about how we should treat others and not discriminate. 8ALD also delivered a superb assembly on discrimination to their year group; the content of their presentation went into great detail and was delivered with great skill.

House Kahoot Quiz
We had an amazing 32 teams enter the House Kahoot competition! After an extremely exciting (and noisy) hour, Sophie and Izzy from 8GMO and Toby and Rob from 9EM managed to beat the competition and secure and 1st and 2nd place finish for Kestrel House. Buzzards Amelia and Hannah took 3rd place. The full write-up is on the website.

Icknield Collaboration
Our Year 7 students, together with Mrs Ford, are working with Icknield students this week in the IT suite to produce a school magazine.

SIMS Learning Gateway and New Parent Portal
We are pleased to announce the trial launch of a new online parental engagement platform. Parent Progress View provides access to the same annual reports, behaviour / achievement detail and school attendance information as SIMS Learning Gateway, but addresses some of its limitations - including full support for mobile devices and self-service password resets.

Parent Progress View is now part of our existing Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) and parents are welcome to request an account by completing the 'Parent Progress View Signup' form on our school website under the 'Parents' banner.

SIMS Learning Gateway will remain available as normal for the time being, however we encourage any parents who experience issues with SLG to request a Parent Progress View account.

Sporting Achievements
Netball results this week; Year 8 lost 12-11 in a close game against Testbourne, whilst Year 7 won their match 9-5.

Congratulations to Harriet McCrae who won Bronze in the National Judo Schools Championship last weekend.

Good luck to Mikey Summerfield as he has been picked to start on Sunday 25th for U16 London Irish in the Warwick festival.

Learning Resource Centre Update
The Scholastic Book Fair started this week and continues until 4.00pm on Monday.

We launched the Hampshire Book Award to our Year 8 judges this week who will now be busy reading, discussing and evaluating the 6 shortlisted titles. Thank you to those participating students for taking part. We are looking forward to hosting the county-wide voting day in June when we will be joined by around 100 other year 8 students!

The LRC Library is trying to secure the return of a large number of overdue books. Please encourage your child to check for any items that need to be returned. Our students are not currently fined or penalised for overdue or lost loans but we do expect items to be returned. Students have already been reminded by tutors and have been sent e-mail reminders if they have items outstanding. Parents and students can log into the Reading Cloud from the link on our VLE and check their account - it shows all student loan history. We look forward to being reunited with missing items soon!

Hampshire County Youth Music Ensembles
For those interested, auditions for the various Hampshire County Youth Music Ensembles are being held next term, including voice. Details of dates and requirements can be found here.

Yr 9 Drama & Dance Showcase
Our last performance of the term will be the year 9 Drama and Dance Showcase next Wednesday and Thursday. Tickets will be available on the door for £1 and curtain up will be at 7.00 pm. The show will last approximately 1 hour.
