Assemblies
I took assemblies this week on the theme of our School Council, asking the question "What is a school council?" In our school, the school council is a group of students who are elected to represent the views of all students and to improve their school. I also took them through some slides on the impact of the student council in the last couple of years, which has resulted in toilet refurbishments, new food hatches and pod and installation of water fountains.
The current School Council are promoting several initiatives this year and Years 7-9 are working collaboratively on Respect, Kindness, Safety and Dare Not to Swear. Lots of activities in the pipeline!
Next Monday, the Assembly for Year 11 will be taken by the National Citizen Service with a short parents information meeting at 6.00 pm that day, to which Year 11 parents have been invited.
Reformed Examinations
For those parents with students in Year 10 and 11, these slides taken from Ofqual demonstrate the changes to the examination structure that will affect your children.
Year 11 Catering Practicals
Year 11 catering students have worked hard this week under exam conditions and produced some wonderful meals to assess for their final grades. I am really proud of our students and would also like to thank Mrs Law for all her hard work in preparing them. Staff have enjoyed being part of the assessment process!
Sporting Fixtures
Netball fixtures continued this week with games against John Hanson; Year 7 lost 15-6 with Faith Holman as best player and Year 8 lost 15-13 in a close and exciting game. Traci Henry was best player.
The year 7 and 8 girls played their first district cup football match this week against Henry Beaufort. The team had great determination and have shown much promise for the future. It was a close game, Henry Beaufort won 3-2 scoring the last goal in the second half. Players of the match: Kiera Elliot and Julia Wojcik.
Our Year 9 Rugby team played Henry Beaufort School on Wednesday. Although the squad lost 25 - 15, they played brilliantly and probably would have won if not for injuries and being forced to borrow players. Man of the match was Robert Blake whose rampaging runs scored all three of our tries.
Year 9 Immunisations
This week our Year 9 students have received their DTP (Diphtheria, Tetanus and Polio) and Meningitis ACWY (School Leaver Booster) in school. We had a really good uptake for the vaccination and our Year 9 students were all very brave and deserve a pat on the back for their maturity!
Musical Change of date
The public performances of this year's musical School of Rock have been put back to the week commencing 21st May. Public Performances will be on Wednesday 23rd, Thursday 24th and Friday 25th May, starting at 7.00 pm.
