Assemblies
This week's assemblies have been sharing information with students to help them have the knowledge and skills to stay safe around their use of digital devices. You will be aware no doubt of the increasing concern about sharing of inappropriate images by young people formerly known as Sexting but now referred to as Youth Generated Sexual Imagery (YGSI). Students should now have a good understanding of what constitutes YGSI, how to keep themselves safe, the consequences and what to do if they are worried about the issue. As the safeguarding of our students is of paramount importance and we work constantly to equip them with the ability to make informed decisions to support good choices, we encourage parents to talk to their children about this and other issues to support the work of school. Students concerned about this issue may find the "So you got naked online" leaflet helpful.
All Year 7 students have been given a copy of the "Digital Parenting" magazine to bring home which contains a wide range of articles to provide parents with the latest expert advice so help your children develop the life skills and knowledge they need to use the online world safely and with confidence.
As always if you have any concerns regarding safeguarding or keeping children safe please do not hesitate to contact our Designated Safeguarding Lead, Mrs Pearce or our Family Partnership Manager, Mrs Buckley.
Parking
We have again been contacted by the Charlton Hill Surgery and asked to request that parents not use their Surgery car park as a drop off and collection point for children. The parking space there is limited and needed for patient use. There is also a safety issue with children crossing the car park at busy times.
Non-uniform Day for Christmas Fair
I have agreed a Christmas non-uniform day for next Friday 8th December, the day of our Christmas Fair. Students can come to school dressed in their festive best for the donation of an item of chocolate or good quality, unused toiletries/perfumes. Any profit from the Christmas Fair will be given to our School Charity, Fayef International School, via Partner West Africa.
The Christmas Fair's highlight this year will be a stall run by the finalists of our House Bake Off competition. Today saw the third and final round: the Showstopper cake! We have had lots of great entries, some of which can be seen here, that staff have been tasting all break and lunch. The winners will be announced next week.
Access to Progress Reports
Year 11 Reports are now available to view on the SIMS Learning Gateway. You will be aware from the emails which have been sent over the last week that your child's latest school report can now be accessed on the Sims Learning Gateway (SLG). If you experience any difficulty with your logins, your child can also access the report by logging in using their usual school network login details.
Year 11 Geography Revision
The Geography Department has put together a Revision Sheet to help you support your child through the revision process. This has been sent home to parents of Year 11 Geography students. This can also be found on the VLE letters home page here.
Year 10 Parents Evening
Thank you to all parents who attended the evening. Staff will be contacting parents who were unable to be there.
