Assemblies
Tutor Groups took our Assemblies this week and spent time updating their Year Groups on several campaigns that students are actively working on; anti-bullying; LGBT tolerance and school council work. Each Year Group has also been introduced to our new PCSO, Renee Broad.
GCSEs
Our Year 11 students have started their exams this week and we wish them every success. There are, naturally at this time, some restrictions to other students in school as to where they can go and how quiet they need to be. We would ask for your support in this; it will be their turn to sit examinations soon enough and they will appreciate the ability to concentrate in peace and quiet.
Teacher Training
We welcomed 30 Trainee Teachers from the Hampshire LEARN SCITT Partnership to Harrow Way today. Caroline Lowing, Assistant Headteacher with other Harrow Way teachers, have given them a full day's immersion in our ethos and teaching practices.
General Election – Education. A reminder to ask questions!
As I am sure you know, the Prime Minister has called a General Election on 8th June. As with any General Election, there will be many issues which will be at stake when the nation votes. I would like to take this opportunity to make you aware of the major education issues of the moment, and their impact on Harrow Way. My hope is that you will ask the candidates about these issues, find out where the different parties stand on them, and use what you find out to help you when you decide where to place your "X" on June 8th. Do have a read through my blog where I have outlined the key challenges we face over the next few years.

CAS Lead School and IT
As you will be aware Harrow Way is a CAS (Computing at School) Lead school. I am delighted to inform you that Mr Peebles and Mrs Robertson has been awarded the title of CAS Master Teachers. These are experienced, high-performing classroom teachers with a passion for the subject; enthusiasm, energy, and a desire to support others.
CAS Master Teachers:
- Champion computer science in schools and the wider teaching profession,
- Provide training, mentoring and coaching to teachers in their local communities,
- Support collaboration between schools and universities.
The Harrow Way IT support team also continues to support the school in working to develop the impact technology is able to have on both learning and administration. In addition to having a voice across the local authority, the Harrow Way team now provides fully managed IT support to 6 local Primary Schools, managing in excess of 1000 devices for over 2000 users. Advances in technology continue to impact the classroom - and as well as continual investment in refreshing existing technology, the school is trialling a move to any time, any place, any device access to data and applications via Googles cloud based applications platform and Chrome hardware. The development of technology at Harrow Way is heavily student influenced and the Network Manager works closely with a student team of 'Digital Leaders' to inform the effectiveness of technology used in the school.
