Year 11 Special Letter assembly
On Monday we had a really special assembly for Year 11. Parents were invited to write a letter to their child to motivate them before their exams and explain to them just how proud of them they are. Some students received special letters from members of staff.
It was a magical moment when Year 11 opened their letters. There were tears, homemade cards and lots of embarrassing pictures! Despite some students claiming that it was 'cringe' they really appreciated their letters and many were quite emotional. We would like to thank all of the parents who took part; we truly appreciate your support. A few images can be seen here.
Year 11 Othello revision session
Mr Marsh is offering a film viewing of Shakespeare's Othello with live commentary for Year 11 students on Monday 15th and Thursday 18th from 3pm-5pm.
The PiXL Club
Over the last 3 years we have been members of the The PiXL Club (Partners in Excellence). The PiXL Club is a collaboration of school leaders, headed by Sir John Rowling; this is a club that some have said to be "the best thing they have seen in education". Partners in Excellence work with over 1500 secondary schools and 280 Sixth Forms. The focus is on raising standards at GCSE. Mrs Pearce, Deputy Head, has been our key lead with this work.
The PiXL Club aims to support the promotion of excellence for students. The club is about sharing new ideas with school leaders; it is a partnership of focused, determined and dedicated professional practitioners. This year we have used a number of strategies to support students who have examinations in 2017.
Our current Year 11 will be sitting the new GCSEs in English and Maths. Stamina is vital in this area as the exams are longer and more challenging than we have ever seen before. PiXL Power to Perform is all about what students are eating and how we can use food to enhance their performance, concentration and energy. The recipes were designed especially by chef Mark Lloyd, all including ingredients that will enable students
to feel fuller for longer and perform well.
There are also words of wisdom from a number of Paralympic athletes. I would invite staff, students, parents and governors to try out some of the recipes. I will be over the weekend!
Year 7 Parents Evening
Thank you to Year 7 parents for attending on Monday evening. We had a good turnout and key staff will be contacting those unable to attend.
Year 7 students are having a great week at Plas Pencelli, pictures are on our @harrowway Twitter feed. The weather looks amazing!
