bRing … bRing … Calling all old mobile phones!
December 15, 2006 on 3:11 pm | In Harrow Way Eagle & Calendar, News | Comments Off7ML is collecting old and used mobile phones for Oxfam to help people in Dafar (Sudan, Africa). They have already presented an assembly, and to date have collected over 70 mobile phones.
More than three years into the Darfur conflict, the crisis continues on a massive scale. Two million people have been forced to flee their homes and are now living in makeshift shelters in crowded camps or massed on the edge of towns and villages in Darfur and across the border in eastern Chad. Many more have been affected by the conflict and are now dependent on humanitarian assistance, as traditional means of livelihoods have been destroyed.
New phone for Christmas?
Please can we have your old one!!
On average each working handset is worth £5 to Oxfam – but some are worth much more. So far Oxfam has raised over £300,000 by recycling mobiles and at the same time have ensured approx 22,500 kilos of electronic waste has been diverted from landfill sites.
Please visit www.oxfam.org.uk/what_you_can_do/recycle/phones.htm for further information.
